A Cub Scout pressed a lawmaker about gun control. Then his den kicked him out, his mother said.

When Ames Mayfield’s Cub Scout den met with a Colorado state senator last week, the 11-year-old came prepared with a long list of typed-up questions.

Ames pressed the Republican state senator, Vicki Marble, on an issue he knew was important to her: gun legislation. The Cub Scout in Broomfield, about 20 miles north of Denver, asked her a slew of questions about previous bills she had sponsored in support of the right to bear arms, and he wasn’t shy about inserting his opinion.

“I was shocked that you co-sponsored a bill to allow domestic violence offenders to continue to own a gun,” Ames said, according to a video posted to YouTube by his mother. “Why on earth would you want someone who beats their wife to have access to a gun?”

After Ames’s questions went on for more than two minutes, a leader in his group cut him off to allow the state senator to answer.

I am not for expelling kids for asking questions, that is what the Left does.

I am for arguing back.

This is the kid’s parents using him as a political tool.

Eleven year olds are CUB Scouts? I have a feeling the kid was reading the question seeing how he was so “shocked”.

Yeah, because this is a burning issue for a lot of 11 year olds.

I was a Cub 8-11. When 12, I went into the Boy Scouts.

Pontiac: Not really he is right on schedule.
Cub Scouts go from 6 to 11 years old.
They have six ranks from Bobcat to Arrow of Light.

OILine Rebel:
He is likely Webelos II/Arrow of Light level, on the older side. They start at 10 usually (5th grade) but could turn 11 during that season.

octex:
I was a Cub 8-11. When 12, I went into the Boy Scouts.

OK, folks - I understand all of what you are saying. I was a Cubmaster for several years so I’m coming from what our Pack did. I’ll use my Eagle Scout son as an example:

Born - Halloween 1980
Kindergarten - Fall 1985, age 4 to start, turning 5 early in the school year.
1st grade - Fall 1986, Tiger Cub (age 6)
2d grade - Fall 1987, Bobcat/Wolf year (age 7)
3d grade - Fall 1988, Bear (age 8)
4th grade - Fall 1989, WEBELOS I (age 9)
5th grade - Fall 1990, WEBELOS II, Arrow of Light @ Blue & Gold Banquet, February 1989, Age 10yrs, 4mos. Boy Scouts will accept boys who have completed Arrow of Light @ age 10.5 or have completed 5th grade.

Could an 11-year-old still be in Cubs due to parental decisions to hold him back in school and activities for their own reasons? Certainly and I’m saying this is the exception, not the rule, thus my question of why is an 11-year-old still there? There’s a reason that is outside the parameters of the BSA.

When I saw that this was a Washington Post story I decided it wasn't worth my time to read it. They are predictable in their hatred of America, its traditions and the constitution.

Waiting for their blockbuster investigation into the Russian/uranium scandal...and waiting...waiting...

Given the family’s activist nature demonstrated by the kid asking baited questions while recording, I wonder what else they did to get expelled.
She’s set up a sob story - they kicked us out for being anti-gun! What else did she do?

The left will do anything; say anything to win their current cause. Controlling who has guns is a old favorite for them so even poisoning their children is okay with them.

Moronic boy....Hey, jerk, if you were friends with me - or my siblings - I’d tell you that you are being brainwashed. Of course, Ames, you need to think for yourself, but I bet you go to a public indoctrination center - aka public and most private school - you can’t think for yourself.

There’s no difference any more.

The name Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will eventually be just called 'Scouts' Then the name 'Scouts' will be determined to be a cultural appropriation of Native Americans.

Very simply, Webelos II is basically 5th grade and 5th grade, especially these days, means one has to be 10 on entrance. Most schools now have that requirement instead of further into the year like my own childhood. Thus, they are allowed to turn 11 the next day of school. So yes, definitely a scout could start WII as 10 and end up 11 before it all ends.

Frankly the anti gun arguments are too easy to crush. It’s history stands with tyrants and totalitarians. And of course the Democratic party. Hitler, Mao, Castro, Obama.

The kid sounds like a budding liberal jerk, but I don’t see grounds for expelling him. Do the Cub Scouts have rules that allow them to ostracize kids they don’t like?

Vicki Marble is a solid conservative, pro 2nd Amendment legislator and an all-around class act...

In view of the numbers of Leftists and their larvae infesting the Front Range area of Colorado, I suppose putting up with adult-coached childish dumbassery like this is now considered part of the job...
