Yep, there is a MUCH BIGGER PICTURE than a ‘local’ race in Virginia. Hopefully enough Republicans will realize that the GOPe ALREADY WON THE RACE (in the Primary), as I mentioned, as in the following:

1) If the RINO wins, then the GOPe gets another Senator.

2) If the RINO loses, then TRUMP IS BLAMED and no one else. It will show that TRUMP IS A LOSER, and Republicans throughout Congress will be pressured to start distancing themselves from Trump.

“The Governor does not draw the maps. The very conservative House of Delegates does that.”

That’s the most ill-informed statement in this entire thread. While no governor draws district lines—or drafts any type of legislation—the governor has something called a veto power, and if a RAT Governor of VA vetoes the redistricting plan approved by the very conservative Virginia House of Delegates and the only slightly Republican Virginia Senate, then the plan won’t go into effect because the GOP won’t come close to overturning the veto in the state Senate. And if no compromise can be reached, some random judge will draw the district lines. And you do know what happens when judges draw district lines, right? I’ll tell you what won’t happen: You won’t get 2/3 of the state legislative districts with GOP majorities (in fact, you’ll likely get Democrats in 55% of the seats), or an 8R, 4D U.S. House delegation starting in 2023 (VA will pick up a congresional seat after the 2020 Census). And those new district lines will stay in place until after the 2030 Census, when the Democrat majorities in both houses will get to draw the new district lines, and we won’t be able to stop them unless VA elects a GOP governor in 2019.

If you need to be reminded of the VA governor’s veto power in redistricting plans, think back to the map redrawing following the 2010 Census. The GOP had a comfortable majority in the House of Delegates but the Democrats had a slim majority in the Senate. As per tradition, each state house drew its own lines and approved the plan set forth by the other house; not surprisingly, the GOP House of Delegates drew a map that would result in a GOP house supermajority, while the Democrat Senate drew a map that would have created a comfortable RAT senate majority; the two houses were unable to agree on congressional redistricting. Fortunately, VA had elected Republican Bob McDonnell as governor in 2009, and the Governor vetoed the state Senate map but signed the House of Delegates map. The RAT Senate screamed bloody murder, but couldn’t do squat about it; with the 2021 state legislative elections approaching, it was forced to adopt a map that, at best, would give the Democrats a slight advantage in the state senate, and McDonnell signed it into law rather than roll the dice with a judge-drawn map. The GOP was able to win exactly half of the state Senate districts in 2021, and with RINO Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling breaking the tie, approved a congressional district map for 2012 that gave the GOP an 8-3 advantage (which lasted until some stupid judge ruled that the black-majority VA-03 had *too many* blacks, and drew two 40%-black, 55%-60% Democrat districts in SE VA, so the current delegation is 7R, 4D).

So it actually is CRUCIAL for the future of the Commonwealth of Virginia that a Republican is elected governor this November. Allowing the Democrat to win the VA governorship would imperil the GOP majorities in both houses of the state legislature and in the state’s congressional delegation (which in turn could affect control of the U.S. House), which would give the Democrats free reign to pass their liberal agenda. If you want to keep the “very conservative House of Delegates” in VA, you’d better make sure that Ralph Northam doesn’t get elected governor. And the only way to stop Northam from winning is to elect Gillespie.

I’ll probably hold my nose for Amnesty Ed but it won’t be enough.
He’s partly responsible for the sorry state of my state as part of the Bush administration.
Before the Bush administration Virginia was an English speaking low crime state.
Oh, and we elected Republicans.

I am hoping for bad weather like we had today, but more and more people are moving to absentee ballot.

The Dems use the absentee/early voting ballot to cheat and build a big lead.

In Virginia, congressional and state legislative district boundaries are set by the Virginia General Assembly. These lines are subject to veto by the governor.

So please think about that when trying to ‘teach the GOP a lesson’...

"teach the GOP a lesson" - good Lord, LOL! I haven't heard that worn-out canard in a loooong time!

You GOPe apologists really need to come up with new materials. We're way past teaching the UniParty GOP a "lesson". We're done with the Mitch McConnell wing. They're dead to us. This is not a matter of teaching them a lesson. They're a cancer which needs to be sliced out of the Party in order to save it. You throw out one or two of the worthless GOPe idiots, and the remaining ones see what happens, sphincters get tightened, and they start paying attention to "We, the people". Some Democrats get elected ("OMG! OMG! OMG! Did he just say that??? OMG!"), but that's the price you pay for treating a cancer. What will result, over time - over time, is a new, stronger, GOP.

Go, Bannon, go!

This "vote for the 'R' because he's an 'R' and he's not a 'D'..." has gotten us into this mess - it's gotten us Mitch. It's gotten us Paul. It's gotten us the GOP division of the UniParty.

"We the people" are done with "teaching" the GOP a "lesson". It's obvious over the last eight months that they are unable to learn. So lay off the stupid "teaching the GOP a lesson" line.

I know you GOPe apologists (and frightened go-along-to-get-along types) will ignore what I'm saying; some of you here on Free Republic get some nice checks from the GOP UniParty for posting on these threads, so that's fine and dandy, I don't expect you to change your stripes. But maybe some here will see the light.

Passed by my local police station yesterday. Saw the absentee ballot signs all over the place, and the lines going in to vote absentee were out the door.

Ed is an elite puppet. Corey Stewart should have been picked. When you select RINOs, it is often no better than Democrats.

If the Democrat wins, for whatever reason, the media will run with the story that TRUMP HAS BEEN REPUDIATED. HUGE SLAP-DOWN FOR TRUMP!!

Boy oh boy, that really hurt him in Alabama!

Oh, wait...

It sure tells you something when "Cheap Labor Express" Ed won't ask Trump to campaign for him, doesn't it?

Ed was a true elite when he ran the GOP. Poor memory of voters always brings trouble.

” Boy oh boy, that really hurt him in Alabama! Oh, wait... “

They did have the headlines written and were ready to pounce: “TRUMP REJECTED IN SPECIAL ELECTION!!!”

It only became a ‘local story’ after the Republican won.

My point being that as long as the LEFT controls the media, they get to write the headlines, and we need to stop DELUDING OURSELVES into thinking that they will write our headline which would be:

“GOPe DEFEATED IN VIRGINIA ELECTION AS CONSERVATIVES STAY HOME” Sorry, not going to happen.

Instead we’ll get this headline:
“TRUMP REJECTED IN VIRGINIA GOVERNOR ELECTION!!!”

Again, if we want to write the headlines, we need to get control of the media, and we DO NOT have control or anything close to resembling control.

“Yes, Trump is such a very, very vulnerable President... “

Doesn’t matter, THEY get to write the headlines, not us...and I doubt anyone disputes which headline they’ll write.

And 98% of the country (the part that doesn’t live on FR) will ONLY see that headline - they will have NO FRIGGEN CLUE that it was internal Virginia politics that sunk him.
