University of Wisconsin students protested the school's Abraham Lincoln statue with a 'die-in'

Students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison sought to reignite conflict over the school's famed statue of Abraham Lincoln this month.

Lincoln, perched atop Bascom Hill, has drawn protests from racial justice activists in recent years. In 2016, the statue was draped in a black tarp over the university's alleged perpetuation of white supremacy and racism. One year earlier, a group discussed removing the statue but dismissed that idea for being too extreme.

Now, the sixteenth commander in chief is facing fire from "Wunk Sheek," an indigenous student group on campus.

On Columbus Day, which is recognized as Indigenous Peoples Day in the city of Madison, the organization staged a "die-in" around the statue to call attention to Lincoln's 1862 ordered execution of 38 Dakota men. Activists hung a sign around Lincoln's neck that said "#DecolonizeOurCampus."

"Everyone thinks of Lincoln as the great, you know, freer of slaves, but let's be real: He owned slaves, and as natives, we want people to know that he ordered the execution of native men," one student leader of the protst, who is hopefully not majoring ien history, told the Daily Cardinal. "Just to have him here at the top of Bascom is just really belittling."

Lincoln, of course, did not own slaves, though even a failed Wisconsin state Supreme Court candidate made the same mistake last year.

Perhaps a sense of greater historical awareness would better serve these students' efforts to, you know, bring about a sense of greater historical awareness.

A say what?

So now, devotees of a 1980s one-hit wonder group are indigenous peoples?

I posted another article on the same topic and was shocked to learn that JoAnne Kloppenburg, candidate for Supreme Court of Wisconsin (and almost elected) made the same claim in her last election. Where are these people going and where did they receive their “educations”?

Can we ban images on campus celebrating those who were mass murderers, who wholesale executed gays and political opponents, and repressed minorities and women?

And I guess hold a clothes donation rally since most of the icons leftists wear would fit the above definition?

Hope parents of potential students take note, alums too. The only thing these indoctrination centers understand is $$:

High school counselors report that, in the past few years, parents have been more likely to express concern about sending their children to schools with progressive reputations.

“Many won’t consider Oberlin or Wesleyan, and Brown is completely off the table,” one counselor told Inside Higher Education in June.

The problem may be especially pronounced among the nation’s heartland. Inside Higher Education reports that several prestigious, small liberal arts colleges in the Midwest have missed their enrollment marks this year.

Some college administrators have taken notice. According to Inside Higher Education’s annual survey, 52 percent of admissions directors from public colleges and 28 percent from private ones said they were stepping up their recruitment of students from rural areas in the wake of the presidential race.

Declining enrollments have previously been observed at colleges and universities that became notorious for chaotic campus activism, including the University of Missouri and Evergreen State College.

By some estimates, enrollment at the former is down 35 percent since fall 2015, when student protests helped launch the Black Lives Matter movement.

Glad people are taking note and withdrawing from these evil brainwashing centers. Ditto for boycotting the NFL, National Felons League.

The current turmoil can only be solved by civil war which is concluded by unconditional surrender by on side

That’s right cupcakes, let your dumbassedness shine through. Jist wait intil you graduate from this diploma mill with your masters in Ubangi transgendered studies, Aztec lesbian drum beating or whatever irrelevancies they’re majoring in. When you realize it wouldn’t qualify you to operate a French fry machine at McDonald’s at minimum wage, you’ll really have something to protest. I thought Michael Savage was being sarcastic, but liberalism IS a mental disease. The APA really needs to designate it as such and assign a DSM-II code for it.

Charging over $50K per year to have your kid indoctrinated with a bunch of marxist ideas and no employable skills isn’t a good business model? Who knew!

Bunch of pikers. Had they true conviction they’d be holding their anti-Lincoln rally at the memorial in DC.

Read the charges for which the 38 executed Sioux were convicted, and then tell me that they didn’t deserve to hang. Lincoln pardoned many more who probably deserved the same.

A am realizing that the week long fight with my mother in August of 1957 about what major I wished to study at the UW caused me to abandon any plans of attending classes there.

Now, I am proud to say I DID NOT attend the UW....which was less than 7 miles from our farm house.

Mizzou is a special case. It’s an low-bar-for-admission sports-oriented public school in a state whose college-attending demographic is heavily white and moderate to conservative. The dramatic left-wing nonsense was a game changer.

Oberlin and Wesleyan haven’t been affected.

Brown is harder to get into than ever — 0.0% of people will say “there are a lot of social justice warriors there, so I’ll go to a non-Ivy instead.” While there are probably some conservative-leaning kids who might have chosen Brown who instead will choose Dartmouth, just as many kids will choose Brown instead of Columbia because the liberal nonsense is part of “cool” and laid-back mystique.

I think they’re exaggerated, but contemporary reports claim as many as 800 settlers killed by the native activists.
