The idea is to build a pipeline to Mexico, liquefy it there, then ship to Asia, bypassing the Panama Canal, with its tolls and possible delays.
Looks like a win-win for both parties.

A gas liquefaction plant and terminal in Mexico. What could possibly go wrong?
And remember when the Kansas City Southern built a rail line to, and a port at, Lazaro Cardenas, Mexico to bypass the Canal and the west coast ports with their union problems? How has that worked out a half a billion dollars later?

Mexicos west coast is a natural venue for the Pacific trade, especially as a pipeline terminus. I would bet that this concept will become a reality before too long.
To: PAR35
Yeah, the cartels won’t ever figure out how to extort money by threatening to sabotage a pipeline.

Many, many things will quickly go wrong...of course. Mexico holding the US to blackmail anytime they dont like something we do. Never ending sabotage of the pipeline. Tapping into the pipeline to steal gas. Etc, etc.

Tapping into the pipeline to steal gas. This is LNG (liquefied natural gas). If they managed to cut into that pipe they'll get one hell of a surprise. It's about 260 degrees F below zero. Also, when it hits warm surfaces, it will expand rapidly to many times the volume of its liquid form. They would be dead rapidly. Frozen and no air.

Ah, I made a mistake. The gas in the pipe is not LNG but rather CNG, which is at hundreds of pounds of pressure.
