President Donald Trump boasted of reducing public trust in the mainstream media as a result of his candidacy on Wednesday, saying he was "so proud" that he's been able to "convince people how fake it is."
A recent poll shows 46 percent of voters think the media fabricates stories about the Trump administration; that included 76 percent of Republican voters, and 85 percent of those who strongly approve of Trump's job performance.
In an interview with Fox Business host and supporter Lou Dobbs, Trump said he was treated "very unfairly" by the press in the campaign, but he felt once he won the election, he would start being treated well, "but they got much worse."
He reeled off CNN, MSNBC, NBC ABC and CBS as putting out stories that are "so false" and have sources "that in my opinion don't exist."
"It is so dishonest," he said. "It is so fake. And you know, I have come up with some pretty good names for people. I think one of the best namesyou know, I've really started this whole fake news thing. Now they've turned it around, and now they're calling, you know, stories put out by Facebook fake, and they're fake. What could be more fake than CBS and NBC and ABC and CNN when you look at some of these stories?"
Trump said he'll turn to First Lady Melania Trump at night sometimes and say he'll look forward to watching television because he did "great" that day, but then the news will be "not so good."
He boasted of having 128 million followers on social media across various platforms and having the ability to put out the "real word."
"And people agree," he said. "If you look at the level of approval of general media, if you look at it from the day I started running to now, I'm so proud that I've been able to convince people how fake it is, because it has taken a nosedive."
"Fox has treated me fairly," Trump added. "And I don't mean good, but they've treated me fairly. I don't want to be treated good. I just want to be treated fairly."
First time ever that the right has had an impact on the media!
Saw that. Trump is right to do so. Lying MSM needs to be called out and not trusted.
How many of them are investigating Uranium One? This story is Watergate on steroids and they’re all avoiding it because they’re in the tank for Democrats.
No, the Media ARE the 'Rats. The Media run the 'Rat Party and the GOPe as well. The Media are this country's worst enemy.
Did not! Did not! We had already lost most of our credibility before Trump announced he was running!
Trump has been saying Media runs the Dem party now.
Think you have to go back to who owns the media. NYT (Carlos Slim) and WaPo (Bezos) are no blogs for billionaires.
To know the media is to distrust it. I haven’t trusted it since Watergate.
Since Bezos bought Whole Foods, his Washington Post has article after article praising Whole Foods.
I think the President is using the wrong word here. Is he really convincing people that the media runs fake news? Isn’t he really educating people on that matter?
The word “convince” has the connotation that the matter has no objective reality. For example, how many people are convinced that carbon dioxide is a deadly pollutant and that we must do everything possible to rid the world of it? They are convinced, but not educated.
On the other hand, examples of fake news can be found dating back at least a century. From NBC’s infiltrating non-unionized Food Lion stores in the 1990s with moles dutifully filming horrible food handling practices (which oddly occurred only when the NBC moles were around) to the NYT spiking stories in the early 20th century of the mass executions and starvations in the USSR: there is plenty of evidence that the media is prone to publishing fake news and spiking stories that do not fit a socialist agenda. President Donald Trump is educating people of objective facts, not convincing them of a belief that may or may not be rooted in reality.
The reality is that for many years the arrogant MSM has prided themselves in being able to influence and even determine the results of elections.
all things need to be questioned. no way should people just assume they are being told truth. even from the pulpit, let alone from the media or politicians.
I agree 100%.
“How many of them are investigating Uranium One? This story is Watergate on steroids and theyre all avoiding it because theyre in the tank for Democrats.”
That’s why they reported on it the other day. Now they can claim they reported on the story and lie and say there is nothing to it. Their useful idiots will go Bahhhhhhhhhhhhh.
The leftards did. We (the Donald) flipped it on 'em.
...62,418,820 million deplorables at your service Sir.
Good point.
I actually saw the NYT headline. “Republicans Open Investigation into Obama-Era...”
Obama Era? Like it was the damn JFK files or something. 12 months ago was the “Obama Era” (more like Obama Error).
...delete the “million”....sorry need a bit more covefefe this am.
