If the NFL is going to let the quarterback slide to avoid a tackle, and protect him from the moment he starts his slide, they should spot the ball at the point he starts his slide.

If Alonso lets Flacco slide without the hit, he makes the first down. The only way to stop Flacco from sliding past the first down yardage is to apply enough force to stop his forward momentum.

So, I have no problem with the hit.

The Slum Dog Millionaire controlled BLM/NFL is still rolling down hill as per a long (not worth reading) ESPN article about this week’s owner - players’ union - league meeting. Whether they realize it or they would ever admit it, they keep discussing how they can fool White Americans into believing the Slum Dogs are really patriotic Americans who don’t hate White people. They wasted time and energy avoiding the glaringly obvious: Fire the Slum Dogs who refuse to even make believe they don’t hate White America. That would bring some back BUT as time goes by that number will shrink and the “I don’t give a damn I’m not going back” meter will continue to creep closer to 100%.

That is terrible. Thought soccer might have good sportsmanship (aside from the faking of injuries), but apparently it’s symptomatic of our post-Christian culture.

When the NFL meets with players and their representatives next week to discuss how the league can better support activism efforts by players, it is expected that Colin Kaepernick will be invited to participate in that discussion.

Just to save embarrassment for any other fools, here's a picture of Alonzo:

I think it had more meaning, with respect to civic pride, when our culture, and it's values, were more homogeneous.

Now, it just done out of habit, or from a lack of imagination.

I’ve been boycotting the NFL for overa year and don’t care about anything they do.

Hope the jury is filled with Trump voters when they take CTE cases to a jury. Punitive damages of $1 billion per case sounds about right to me...

If you're hoping for outrageous verdicts, you don't want deplorables. Barking moonbats will do that job in a heartbeat.

Right. Why make an emotional commitment to something over which you have no control? I used to be a casual Buffalo Bills fan till I moved out of town , and it was no longer part of the milieu. I discovered I could live without it.

“they should spot the ball at the point he starts his slide.”

They do. I’ve seen several instances where a QB thought he would slide his way to a first-down but came up short because they spotted the ball where he started his slide.

25 years ago. We had a ‘club player’ (a kid who played on a soccer travel team) on our team that would be injured every game. That affected our win-loss record as well as the opponents. I wasn’t concerned with that wins, but the kid actually expected to get taken out early. Sad.

There was a time when this would not even have drawn a flag, let alone talk of a suspension. The QB protection rules are a good thing, but when Alonso started his dive toward Flacco, Flacco was still up and running. Could Alonso have pulled up? Maybe, but the momentum of a 240 lb man running at full speed isn’t easy to stop. And if Flacco had abandoned his slide and kept running to pick up another 3 yards while Alonso pulled up, Miami fans and Miami’s coaches would be roasting Alonso alive.

That is exactly what the Refs do - spot the ball where the slide was initiated - the spot where the quarterback "gives himself up."

Apparently, you do not watch much NFL football.

Let's assume NFL management acts on your suggestion and eliminates all the "slum dogs". Would that elevate the level of play to make the game once again interesting? The American hating kneegrow issue is just the catalyst - the game itself has been severely compromised in the quest for additional revenues.

First and foremost is focusing on the pass, which resulting in placing an extreme premium on the QB position. Unless a team has an incredible franchise QB, they are not going to win, period.the.end. Secondly are the penalties, reviews and over disruption and pace of games. Third of course is the constant interruption and barrage of commercials. Fourth is the overall dilution of talent - they need to trip 4-8 teams. Fifth is over saturation - kill TNF.

If the NFL could magically transform into the type of organization MLB is currently demonstrating during the WS, the game would still be losing fans. It's simply insufferable to bear watching, especially if you have any memory of how games used to be played. Adding ghetto thug hijinks was just the final straw for millions ready to abandon the sport.

Good sportsmanship? My son told me when he played that he was taught how to injure. This was at the high school level.

He’s 100% Hispanic. And he’s had MANY brushes with the law. Significant brushes. But I do not think this was a terrible hit. Flacco slid late, and has a reputation for doing so.

It’s what Alonso does, especially to QBs. Miami should never have taken this thug.
