The CIA had been training thousands of young Cuban men in camps in Southern Florida. The plan was to use them to invade Cuba.
Kennedy balked at the plan and tried to cancel it. However, what were they to do with the thousands of trained killers here in the US.
So the government went ahead with the invasion but Kennedy pulled the rug - he pulled all the heavy artillery and air cover. Many of those young CIA trained fighters died on the beach.
The CIA had a big motive to get rid of Kennedy. And they have the assets.
The Bay of Pigs was a major catastophe. I live in South Florida and know Cuban families who were real Castro victims. Kennedy was a brand new, inexperienced president who made a major error. Eisenhower took him to the woodshed for it and then publicly voiced support for Kennedy to calm the nation’s worries. A year later we had the Cuban Missile Crisis and the outcome was quite different.
I agree that the CIA was anti-communist. They were loaded with cold warriors that Ike himself put into place. That is one reason why Ike’s public support of Kennedy was so important after the Bay of Pigs. Eisenhower is also known to have warned Kennedy about getting mixed up in Viet Nam. Lyndon Johnson, the boorish fool he was, thought he knew better and history tells us how that ended.
