Anytime “imagine” comes on I want to puke. I have read that Lennon was becoming more conservative over time. Guess we’ll never know for sure. Just as long as the left can prop him up with their anti-gun screed............ I suppose any and all other types of violence are okee dokee.

I think he wrote a lot of those kinds of lyrics without thinking too deeply, just wrote well enough to keep Yoko in a good mood and to get a #3 pop ditty. After all, he actually hit #1 a little later with "Whatever Gets You Through the Night", whose lyrics are quite at odds with those of "Imagine".
