What is the matter with these people?

To answer my own question, first of all they’re leftist political nuts - but more than anything else, they’re products of an educational system that is totally ignorant of history.

I've got an idea: how about the VA concentrated solely on fixing the broken VA? There are so many Vets who are sick, miserable, depressed, and fed-up with this system.

While there is plenty to criticize the VA about, use of "wrong" pronouns ain't one of them. Maybe these gender-warriors should spend some time emptying bed pans and find out what really needs to be done.
