The Rise of Soft-Target Terror Attacks Is a Symptom of Police Success (Terrorism the new normal)
NBC News ^ | November 2, 2017 | Frank Figliuzzi

s this our new normal?

During my FBI career as a Special Agent and ultimately Assistant Director, the FBI, police, and domestic security agencies viewed terrorist incidents through a black and white, binary lens. If we “allowed” an attack to happen, we had failed. If we prevented an attack, we had succeeded. Yet, the increase in lone wolf, soft-target attacks — particularly attacks where trucks and cars are driven into large, vulnerable crowds — can actually be viewed as a symptom of our success.

The Halloween terror attack that occurred in New York City raises an important question: Do we need to change the way we deal with so-called “soft target” attacks?

As I write this, there are reports that the Halloween attacker entered our country in 2010 from Uzbekistan, shouted what sounded like “God is Great” in Arabic, and left a note in his rented truck stating something to the effect that he was inspired by ISIS. If this reporting is accurate, it is possible that our old binary lenses may actually distort our view of this increasingly popular form of mass terror. And if this is true, we must immediately analyze our strategies. Without adapting, Americans could eventually find themselves in a country where the rental of a truck requires a background inquiry akin to a gun purchase, and the reservation of a hotel room requires a search for sniper rifles.

Yep, success at disarming the American people.

Eradicate Islam. No delays. No excuses.

We cannot accept a mindset of “guilty until proven innocent” (background checks); a suspension of the Fourth Amendment (seaches at all sorts of venues, public and private; signing in and out of buildings and wearing flourescent “visitor” stickers.

O wait...we already have.

I’m betting the Las Vegas shootings were Islamic terrorist at work via proxies. Paddock may not have even fired a weapon before he was offed to be the press patsy. The success of that terrorist act must not be allowed in media as was it was. Money is telling folks to shut up and move along with the ‘official’ narrative.

It was her blind hatred of Trump. These people do not have the ability to create original thought.

Random attacks on innocent people are a symptom of living with Islam.

Muslims are religiously obligated to subjugate, convert or kill all infidels.

Submit or Die

The only way jihad stops is if Islam is extirpated.

Like inner-city violence, it’s another consequence of the left being in charge that they want us to adapt to because they cannot fix anything.

We spend $$ trillions in wars overseas because our progressive politicians simply will not do the cheapest, most effective, common sense solution there is - a travel ban from approx. 25 mideast, North African and South Asian countries.

There would be far fewer “soft” targets, and those targets would be nowhere near as soft, if the Second Amendment was constitutionally and properly observed.

Profiling works, because the laws of mathematics and physics work.

There are no “impulse functions,” in the real world. Everything has a precursor signature to the left of the “Boom!”

Profiling does NOT have to infringe on a citizen’s constitutional rights.

Focusing the limited observational and collection capabilities of the nation on those organizations and individuals whose activities match the known precursor signatures and are most likely to cause harm is common sense.

None of this guarantees that there will never be another successful violent attack, just that there will be far, far, fewer of them.
