Bowe Bergdahl, the solider who deserted his post in Afghanistan in 2009 and was subsequently captured by a Taliban affiliate, will not have to serve jail time for the crime. In a stunning announcement on Friday, the judge deciding the case ordered Bergdahl to pay $1,000 from his salary for the next 10 months. He will be demoted to the rank of E-1 during that time and after paying his fine he will be dishonorably discharged. Prosecutors asked the judge to sentence Bergdahl, who pleaded guilty to the charges, to 14 years in prison.

But how many soldiers and Marines are sitting in prison for BS charges. This is one area I would like to see Trump engage in more. I know he has a lot on his plate, but he can select a JAG officer to clean this up.
I thought the penalty for desertion in a wartime situation was death. He knowingly risked the lives of other soldiers by walking off his post. I’m not saying execution was warranted but something far more than this slap on the wrist is deserved. This is the kind of “punishment” that the NCAA hands out when they catch someone red-handed.
Obama made sure the fix was in place. This is beyond disgusting and a slap in the face to every soldier performing honorable service.

Those wounded in the course of searching for him need to file a civil suit for damages, in the event he enriches himself from book or movie deals.
