The one I use all the time is letting the inmates run the asylum. Same meaning.

Why do you associate those sayings with one that would use the word Slave? An inmate is not a slave, an inmate is someone who is not fit to be in public. An employee is not a slave, an employee is someone who can find another job if it doesn’t live up to their expectations or be fired if they don’t live up the to job’s expectations.
