WH On Moore Report: ‘That Hypothetical Would Be Disqualifying For Anyone’ (Kellyanne Conway)
TPM ^ | November 9, 2017 | Matt Shuham

Posted on 11/09/2017 3:18:53 PM PST by Colonel Kangaroo

White House aide Kellyanne Conway said Thursday that allegations against Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore made in the Washington Post “would be disqualifying for anyone in public office.”

“We need to listen to both sides, but at the same time, that hypothetical would be disqualifying for anyone in public office,” Conway said, in a clip aired on MSNBC.

The Post reported the stories of four women who said Moore pursued relationships with them as a grown man when they were teenagers. In one case, a 32-year-old Moore took then-14-year-old Leigh Corfman to his house, undressing her before initiating sexual contact.

“She remembers that Moore kissed her, that he took off her pants and shirt, and that he touched her through her bra and underpants. She says that he guided her hand to his underwear and that she yanked her hand back,” the Post reported.

The White House’s director of legislative affairs, Marc Short, said on CNN later Thursday that “there’s no path forward” for Moore if the Post’s reporting is accurate.

“That’s a big ‘If’ clause, Wolf, it certainly is, but yes,” he told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.

But, pressed on how Alabama voters should determine the veracity of the allegations — which the Post reported after interviews with more than 30 sources — Short had few specific ideas.

“I think that the voters of Alabama deserve to know the truth and I think the voters of Alabama will demand more information, more facts to figure this out,” he said.

Some GOP leaders have called on Moore to drop out of the race to fill Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ former Senate seat — still, other Alabama officials have dismissed the Post’s reporting and defended Moore.

“Oh well. What’s one less Senate seat?”

Sadly, most GOP Senators will be more comfortable with a Democrat in the seat than they would be with Moore in the seat.

Why, after all this time, do these “women” wait to bring this up now?? This report is trash ....

Somebody makes it worth their while now.

THESE ALLEGED MOORE SEXUAL MISCONDUCT INCIDENTS OF 38 YEARS AGO WERE WITH FEMALES BEYOND THE AGE OF CONSENT..SHOW NO IMPOSITION OF PHYSICAL FORCE OR WILL.
In the 19th century marriages teen aged women and older men were common so the age of consent was in the teens. Presently the age of consent for women in Alabama is 16. In 1979 according to Gateway Pundit it was 12. In Mexico it’s 14.

No no no. It would definitely not be disqualifying for a democrat. How about Ted Kennedy?

I thought this was America where you are innocent until proven guilty.

I agree that Moore is innocent until prove guilty. I'll wait before judging. But I'm not going to dismiss these claims out of hand, as you and many others seem to be doing - I don't know Judge Moore or the women accusing him, and I'm not going to jump blindly into defending a man when I (and you, and everyone else here) know nothing about what he did or didn't do.

Oh, and I don’t appreciate the disgusting slur - even if it’s to make your point. Grow up.

And I found your casual disregard for a fellow American equally disgusting. You didn’t like it when it was done to you, but you had no problem when it was someone else.

What casual disregard? I'm genuinely curious how a mind like yours works - I stated a simple, indisputable fact: that if Judge Moore did what he is accused of doing, he has no business running for office. I fervently hope that this turns out to be false - I did not understand why Trump endorsed Luther Strange and was glad when Moore won.

As for "done to you", you don't know me - and what I don't like is the childishness of such a disgusting accusation by some random stranger just to make a point. Most likely you don't know Judge Moore either. If the woman accusing Judge Moore turns out to have actually known him, that's something altogether different. It doesn't mean it's true, and I fervently pray that it isn't. But again, I don't know. Neither do you. I'm going to reserve judgment. You're going to jump around like an angry chihuahua accusing total strangers of child molestation because some politician you like but don't know has been accused of it. Again, grow up.

He’s a gonner.

Don't think so. This is slander, pure and simple. An unprovable accusation made out of the blue a month before an election should not enough to destroy a live-long civil servant--except for those who want to destroy him.

I hope Judge Moore fights back with fire and brimstone.

I find it hysterically funny that you don’t have a problem jumping to conclusions but get all huffy when the accusation is closer to home. I don’t know Judge Moore, I don’t live in Alabama, but I know enough to reserve judgement until the facts come out.

You just got what you gave Judge Moore and you didn’t like it one bit. Sly innuendo is like that, the Duke LaCross team dealt with the same thing. You just jump ahead to “if he did it he must resign,
“ but not a word about if he didn’t. Then what? How would he get the senate seat back? How would he get his reputation back?

I hope Judge Moore and the people of Alabama recognize this obvious attempt to steal the election from him.

Maybe Judge Moore should take Jeff Sessions place on President Trump’s team, and let Sessions run again for his Senate seat.

Oh, baloney - you don't find anything about this funny. Nope, you're hopping mad. And sadly, you're mad because someone has the nerve to say that if a man turns out to be a pedophile, he shouldn't run for office. It says a lot about you, and none of it is good.

I hope Moore turns out to be innocent of these accusations. If he is, I'll curse the people who tried to smear an innocent man. If he doesn't turn out to be innocent, I will not defend him. I suspect you will defend him regardless.

And what do you think he’s accused of? We’ve got one gal, the subject of what seems to have been a custody battle between parents, claiming she lied about her age and engaged in some petting - twice. And three gals above the age of consent, two who went on some pizza and bowling dates in public, with the strong encouragement of their mothers, and one gal who claims she was asked but declined. He married someone 15 years his junior but he has stayed married. So what’s the problem here that you think he has no business running for anything?

See, there you go again, you are jumping to conclusions with absolutely nothing to back it up.

And what do you think he’s accused of?

The accusation I see in the news is that Moore, as a 32 year old man, engaged in sexual acts with a 14 year old girl. If the accusation isn't true, his accusers should be hauled into court and jailed for this smear. If it is true, he has no business running for anything.

And why do you think the woman waited all these years to accuse him? Do you think any money has suddenly been paid to her?

I don't know, and I don't see much point in guessing. I'll wait for more information to come out - truth is a stubborn thing, and it usually finds a way to make itself known. We're either seeing an appalling and shameless political smear of an innocent man, or we are seeing a man who has done evil trying to brazen his way out of it.
