I got to Ft Leonard Wood, MO, in mid ‘66; our basic training unit Captain welcomed us to the US Army and introduced Senior Drill Instructor Master Sergeant Nicholson.
I’ll never forget his first words: “The Captain calls you ‘gentlemen’ but you’re bullsh*t to me.”
Then he got mean.
What’s really funny is that drill sergeants can be some of the kindest, most decent people you’ll ever meet, unless you’re a new recruit.
