President Trump on Sunday responded to the father of one of the UCLA basketball players detained in China on shoplifting charges after the man snubbed the president’s successful effort to get the teammates released, saying, “I should have left them in jail."
The president responded after LaVar Ball, the outspoken father of UCLA player LiAngelo Ball, downplayed Trump’s effort.
Trump said while on his recent trip to Asia, at the same time the players allegedly shoplifted in China during a basketball tournament, that he had spoken directly with Chinese President Xi Jinping about the matter.

Public post secondary education would be well-served, if they didn’t serve as the “farm system” for MLB, the NFL, and the NBA. These people aren’t there to get an education, they are there to land a spot on a professional sports team of one kind or another.
He compared the shoplifting to things that happen all the time in Los Angeles, not understanding Chinese culture and the harsh, long-term prison sentences these kids were facing.
This is what decades of progressivism and corrupt leftist media has wrought.
Progressivism in that the father doesn't even teach or promote responsibility to his children.
The leftist media which barely reported the story only until Trump helped get them released, and are now putting their spin on it rather than reporting the facts.
Trump should have waited about 3 months and let these kids stew in their juices (and miss Christmas) and then asked China to release them.
The father is a dumbass but Trump doesn’t have to respond to every slight on Twitter lol.

It’s hard to be humble when...Your college-aged son travels to a foreign land with his basketball team and gets caught shoplifting something he doesn’t even need, but then he’s let off the hook thanks to the President of the United States!
All Trump is doing is giving LaVar Ball’s “Big Baller Brand” more street credibility by tweeting his name. Trump was thanked by the kids and their coach - best to just drop it.

Maybe given that the latest polling by Zogby shows Merkel, Macron and may all have lower approvals than our President may just reinforce that point just a bit.
