Tillerson condemns violence against LGBT people on Transgender Day of Remembrance

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson released a statement marking Monday Transgender Day of Remembrance.

Tillerson’s statement condemned the violence against transgender individuals, saying that they “should not be subjected to violence or discrimination.”

“Transgender individuals and their advocates, along with lesbian, gay, bisexual and intersex persons, are facing increasing physical attacks and arbitrary arrests in many parts of the world,” Tillerson wrote. “Often these attacks are perpetrated by government officials, undermining the rule of law.”

Transgender Day of Remembrance has been commemorated on Nov. 20 for nearly 20 years, and the White House began participating in 2012, according to GLAAD. …

I wouldn’t expect the Secretary of State to become involved in such an issue. This seems to be a public affairs and policy topic. If anyone should address it at all, I would expect someone like Dr. Jerome Adams, as Surgeon General to do it.

Oh well. I suppose any opportunity for Rex T. to separate himself from what is said to be Pres. Trump’s opinion cannot be ignored.
I would be very surprised if Rex Tillerson remains S.o.S. one year from now. I don’t think he’s content in his position at all.

I was going to say that I was OK with Tillerson attending the event. Because there is nothing wrong with condemning violence. People (transgenders, Buddhists, mountain hermits, whatever) have the right to be left alone.
