Russia accused of 'cover-up', dramatic spike in radiation - but refuse to investigate source
The Independent ^ | 21 November 2017 | Oliver Carroll

Russia has finally confirmed that it measured increased levels of radioactive activity in the Urals, some weeks after French officials said it may have been due to an "accident" at a Russian or Kazakh nuclear facility.

The state had, in fact, measured increased levels of the Ruthenium-106 isotope in the Southern Urals. But there was nothing to be worried about, said the head of the Russian Metereological Service, Maxim Yakovenko. Yes, the levels might have been several hundred times background levels, but they were still safe for the general public. In any case, in Romania, the figures were at least 50 per cent higher.

EXCERPT:

Mayak is the enterprise in the closed town of Ozyorsk in the South-Urals where Russia’s only reprocessing plant for spent nuclear fuel is located.

Formerly known under the code-name Chelyabinsk-65, the secret town was the birthplace of Josef Stalin’s nuclear weapon program with several plutonium production reactors and processing plant for nuclear warheads material. Nowadays, the plutonium extracted from the reprocessing plant, is stored and could possible be used for so-called MOX-fuel, a mixture of uranium and plutonium for civilian nuclear power reactors.

“... the secret town was the birthplace of Josef Stalin’s nuclear weapon program...”

Given the commies’ record of environmental disasters, many through intentional disregard, this could be easily explained as some builder accidentally bulldozing through an old dump site, not some kind of nuclear accident.

Why investigate when you know the cause. They just aren’t saying of course.

It's Hillary's missing 30,000 emails.

They're "radioactive"...

Like I always said, Russia (and the Soviet Union) have always been like children playing with matches.

They try so hard to keep up with the West, bless them, but in nuclear energy, their childishness will have real consequences..

And we approved Uranium One?

EXCERPT:

In one report on its website, Rosgidromet — the state agency that monitors air and water pollution — said that it measured a concentration of Ru-106 at nearly 986 times normal levels at the Argayash weather station in the Chelyabinsk region in late September and early October. A table that was part of the report referred to that as “extremely high contamination.”

At the Novogorny meteorological station, in the same region in the southern Urals, levels were 440 times those of the previous month, the report said.

A separate statement posted later, however, said that Ru-106 levels qualifying as “extremely high contamination” had not been detected.

It said, using bold type for emphasis, that concentrations of Ru-106 were “several times lower” than the “permissible” level.

It also said that the reason levels were hundreds of times higher than in the previous monitoring periods was that Ru-106 had been “absent” from the earlier findings.

Rosgidromet said that the fact that it found “even negligible concentrations of radioactive isotopes” was evidence of the “high effectiveness” of its monitoring methods.

It asserted that the “heightened attention” paid to the Ru-106 levels by “certain environmental-protection organizations” was an effort to “increase their importance in the eyes of society” at a time when “their budgets for the next year are being drafted.”

Ruthenium-106 (Ru-106)
Half-Life: 373,6 (days)

Radioisotope Ruthenium-106 (Ru-106) emits beta radiation. It has a limited penetration depth, so Ru-106 applicators are used for tumors with maximum thickness up to 7 mm. Ru-106 is used in brachytherapy for treatment of uveal melanoma that provides perfect local control rates and eye preservation with a relatively low recurrence rate.

JSC Isotope is ready to supply you with Ru-106. We represent Russian isotope product manufacturers that possess unique engineering expertise and production capacities. We cooperate with ROSATOM State Corporation companies and guarantee high quality of our products. Our client-oriented approach has made JSC Isotope one of the leaders in global isotope sales market.

Ever since Oleg Penskovsky told us what an empty shell the Soviet Union was - way back in 1963 - we’ve known that Russia does not know what it is doing.

But back then, we had an interest in escalating the Cold War. A financial interest.

Have you seen Russia’s ONE aircrcratt carrier lately? Lol.

Project your memories of their aircraft carrier to their nuclear program.

Ha ha!

I fought in the Cold War. No one gives us credit for anything.

But my Commander-in-Chief was Ronald Reagan - and we beat the sh!t out of the Soviet Union.

Almost 30 years on from the fall of the Iron Curtain, Mayak is closed to foreigners and surrounded by barbed wire.

If tomorrow, anywhere in the western world, read civilized world, radiation was 900+ times background we would know why, where, how in 24 hours.

But, it’s the Japanese that aren’t forthcoming.

At best your a troll.
