The abundance of our one time free market society with the freedoms guaranteed byu the Constitution is such that our society has created a large and growing class of drones who do not produce. We have the Gimmes and we have the Intellectuals, both of whom are destructive of value and are net consumers of production. The gimmes are a voting base for the politicians who make themselves wealthy and who continually eenlarge the Gimme class in order to retain power and make more money. The Intellectuals who do no work have the time and inclination to dream up ways to stifle freedom and the whole notion of the free market which are used in conjunction with the politicians to take control of an ever larger portion of the assets of the society and to deprive the producers of their production to also deprive them of political power.

Free societies become prosperous societies and prosperous populations delay marriage more and more and have fewer and fewer children. The underclass that the free society has come to support has more and more children. A large factor in the decline of Rome was that phenomenon.

Free societies based on Rule of Law contain within themselves the seeds of their inevitable destruction as the nonproductive class appropriates and expropriates more and more of their wealth.Long term survival of such societies is probably possible in only small populations, like Switzerland, maybe, that control effectively their borders and severely limit immigration and that do not support non productive gimmes. The Intellectuals can be suffered in such a society because they do not have a gimme class to support them with their votes.

By the time I became a multi-millionaire, many of my friends were billionaires. They could do things I couldn’t.

Such a sad story. I weep for him... not! How much money and stuff does one need in life to be happy? I gave up on a desire for more and retired early, finding that life is good living within your means, and not having debt. Less stuff is better, and I'm trying to shed junk from my life. Happy Thanksgiving, yes it was, enjoyed yesterday hosting relatives. Hope yours was excellent as well.
