My mother died in my home last year after I cared for her 24/7 for three years. She was just shy of 98 years.
Three weeks before she died, she was crying and said to me, “I’m afraid I’m going to hell.”
I knew she was about to transition, and started praying for her, round the clock. I prayed for the portal to Heaven to open, but nothing happened. I prayed and prayed, no portal. (for some reason unknown to me, I physically see and feel spirits and the Light and Love of Heaven. It is beyond words.)
The next day she stopped eating. She had been only about 90 pounds so I knew the end was coming. She did not eat anything for three weeks before she passed.
One very unusual thing. Her body radiated so much heat it felt as though I was standing by a fire. This continued for the entire three weeks. I asked the Dr. and the hospice nurse, they couldn’t figure it out as she had no infection.
While I continued daily to pray for the portal to open, nothing. However I could see this liquid Light around her which I realized was generating the heat.
After two weeks of not eating, while having major bowel movements every day, she stopped drinking any fluids for the final week. The entire time I kept the morphine at a very minimal dose as she was exhibiting no signs of physical or emotional pain.
Finally after three weeks, the portal opened up and she left.
She passed about 9 PM and when the hospice nurse called at 10 PM I told her to wait until tomorrow morning to stop by, there was no need for a special trip. I have no problem with death, having died myself and returned to my physical body in 1988.
The next morning, my wife asked me to put a nice long sleeve blouse and slacks on my mother’s body before it was removed. I thought I would need to cut it down the back and lay it over her as 12 hours after death rigor mortus would be full status.
Much to my surprise there was no rigor 12 hours after death. The body was fully flexible.
I realized that with her fear, she was afraid of the bright light that shined through the portal from Heaven. Thus no matter how hard I prayed, it did not open. The liquid Light I saw around her that generated all the heat was the Holy Spirit transmuting the sins in her soul. After three weeks of being basked in the Holy Spirit, her soul was ready for the brighter Light of Heaven. Her nourishment for those three weeks was from the Holy Spirit.
It was the most remarkable death experience I have ever shared with anyone. I learned a lot. Never, ever fear death. Always choose the path of the Light and you will be far better than fine, you will be in eternal bliss.
Your stories are quite remarkable. I enjoy them very much. I believe what you are saying.

I can attest to that from experiences in my own family.

I will make an attempt to explain, while it seems best to avoid interfering with the beliefs of others on this topic. Here are only some of the various guesses of people who are interested—some resulting from studies, others from one or another simple faith or following.
* Effects of brain damage, hallucinations.
* Purgatory.
* A process of purification of a soul for human recycling or to be sent to a good World to Come.
* A notion (guess) of a few physicists that each of us is connected to an entity in another universe that has different materials, actions and reactions. When we die, the being on the other end of our tether, of sorts, goes on with existence.
As related to more detailed instructions from a few ancient religious and martial teachings, to see oneself more completely and accurately requires more wisdom, experience or a more focusing kind of meditation than to know others. One might say that repeatedly viewing oneself without being surprised might be a sign of attainment of skill for victories. Another might say that seeing the same reflections without surprises would indicate a more near readiness in a soul to move on to another level.
And people without faces might be indicative of ephemeral beings.
Apologies to many readers for having no narrative about a person possibly being outfitted like the Jack Sparrow character (”Pirates of the Caribbean”), gleefully surveying streets made out of gold (”Gold!”) and putting on a ruler’s gold and bejeweled crown. One might look to the explorations of the Spaniards in southern parts of the Americas or even ancient Rome for that.
I had a boss that told me about when they placed his mother in law in hospice care home. They went to visit her the next morning and as she woke up to her family and the nurse was standing there, he said she looked at the nurse and told her that Mr. Brown says hello. The family looked at each other not knowing who this Mr. Brown was. When they went out to the hallway the nurse told them that Mr. Brown was the last occupant of that room and had died a few days before.
