Well have a nice look next time... PA is the most expensive per mile in the nation.... and it goes up another 6-8% every year automagically or more.
The legislature passed a law a few years back that automagically increases tolls annually by an INSANE percentage.... The toll for the first non toll booth section of the turnpike coming in from OHIO has gone from $2.90 to $7 in less than 7 years, and will be going up again come January 1.
Its a complete scam anymore. It went from being a slush fund for cronies to be a cash wow for them.
They keep doing things to “LOWER THEIR COSTS” while lowering service and raising their rates... Its absolutely inexcusable.
If you travel all the way across the state, from Ohio border to the Deleware bridge the toll is currently 51.85, and its going up January 1 again. A distance of about 340 miles.
So they are over .15 a mile now, and rates go up again January 1.
Agree same here in Ca in the mountains cell phones are useless it’s why so many hikers need a rescue party to find them.
Turnpike Commission, most expensive, corrupt gummint organization in PA, which in itself, is one of the most corrupt state in the Union.
I too, use EZ-Pass, but it is like a drug, it makes you insensitive to cost/mile.
My family has some property in Central PA.
Let’s just say I’ve found ways other than the Turnpike
to get there.
What is really amazing is how much money they get for their bloated PENNDOT Budget. With over 12,000 employees they do very little road work. Most is out sourced to the highest bidder. Just saying.
Well County Ward Chairman Blutarsky’s drunken brother-in-law has to get a job somewhere.
I would hazard they are a financial liability these days - probably more been vandalized than are working....plus, with cell phones, they are about obsolete.
What is a dial?
“And it would turn on when you pulled the knob in front. Easy-peasy.”
Some even came with a pair of vice grips to use when your kid destroyed the channel changer.
I travel to my soon-to-be retirement home in northern Michigan and use both the PA and Ohio turnpikes. The EZPass is a headache and time saver and they do give a discount for using EZPass. The main problem is I haven't looked at my account to see how much the tolls were the last time I drove through there. I do know they upped the fares awhile ago.
I think the last time I had to pay cash at the PA toll booths it was over $13 to get from the west entrance at the Ohio border to Breezewood. Back in the 80s I was stationed in Michigan and my wife was stationed in DC and the tolls were somewhere around $4.
Pennsylvania also has much higher gas and milk prices than Ohio. Gas prices are somewhere around $.40 a gallon higher and state controlled milk prices are now more than twice as much per gallon as what I pay at Aldi’s in Ohio.
The toll from OH border to Breezewood is 25.25 now... and going up Jan 1...
EZ pass lowers it to about 18...
I can’t wait until the powers that be figure out they can use the time stamps on your ez pass accounts to automatically send you speeding tickets to bulk their coffers up.
PA has the highest gas taxes in the nation... and Milk prices are regulated... you can’t sell milk for lower than the allowed price, period.
Aren’t they supposed to reimburse you for the use of the land?
Noticed a TV ad a few times about a month ago, the gravamen of which was that some company wants to turn every commercial airliner into a cell phone repeater. Considering how many airliners are airborne at any given time, it does seem like that would be an interesting addition to communications infrastructure . . .OTOH even at that, there is not an airliner in view of all locations at all times. But certainly for search and rescue aircraft you would sure like to have a cell phone transponder which could put you in touch with lost hikers who have cell phones but who dont have much battery available, and no fixed cell towers in sight.
EZ pass lowers it to about 18...
I better start looking at the maps to see if I can find another route that doesn't add too much time.
It costs me about $150 round trip to my place in Michigan and I'll be darned if I spend 1/3 more for just the tolls on the PA Turnpike. Heck, the Ohio Turnpike isn't all that cheap either.
