In America, its made worse by the fact they have been supported and have grown their power for many decades with massive government spending and massive debt (mostly students)
Scandals and turmoil should be threatening 2/3 of our colleges and universities IMHO.

In academia who is even more privileged than tenured professors? Top administrators.
