Unless you have a catastrophic illness like terminal cancer or end stage kidney failure, they almost always reject the first request. Wish I’d known that when my father was denied many years ago after a heart attack that left him with a little over half a functioning heart. They had to use up quite a bit of their savings until he reach the age of 62, three years later.

I am truly sorry that happened.

3 YEARS is quite a while to support one’s self with savings.

And yes, I did find that out later on.

But less than half a functioning heart? Geez. He should have been a first timer for goodness’ sake.

My mentally ill niece's went through the first time, but she had been declared legally insane.

Less than half of applications are ultimately approved, an that's after going through all levels of appeals.

It's not easy to get. No one who has any other options at all is going to go through all that crap for a measly $800 a month check.
