The number of Twitter followers may have some intrinsic value in politics, and Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona seems to be no exception to this rule.
McCain tweeted Monday morning asking for assistance in gathering more followers to become one of the few sitting senators with at least three million followers.
"We're only 74 Twitter followers away from 3M - spread the word & help us reach this big milestone!," McCain's tweet said.
McCain's tweet seemed to have the opposite effect he began steadily losing followers. As of this writing, McCain has 2,989,328, a big deficit from the 74 he originally requested.

Someone used a tool that identifies fake accounts and determined about half of Clinton's followers aren't real.
Both that and this make me LOL
And the real ones ain’t all there neither!
When a terminally ill little kid says that he wants to get so many thousand cards for his last Christmas, it's understandably touching. When a grown man tries to do the equivalent, it's pathetic.
I just went to Twitter to see his followers. Scrolled down, and saw who to follow. Barack Obama, the Republican GOP, and Nancy Pelosi. Wow. Birds of a feather.
Really hard to believe McDummy has that many followers on Nitwitter.
I need only another $2 to be able to buy a cup of coffee at Starbucks.
How many Abdullahs, MoMuMahamads were there? ISIS, HAMAS?
He probably has a big staff and the kid who monitors replies and posts to McCain probably did the tweet asking for more followers. I dont think McCain uses computers because of his hands. At least thats what he said in 2008
Why follow him ,you’ll just get disgusting stuff on your shoes
You have a counter on your FR profile page?
Towards the bottom...under all the pics photobucket is holding hostage.
Back in his Hayday, John would just get his Buddy and travel companion Charles Keating to bribe em.
As Neil Young once remarked, ‘There’s more to the picture than meets the eye.’ I saw a report a while back about fake Twitter followers. [They are for sale; for the right price you can buy them.] In every single audit, Hillary wins the booby prize for having the highest percentage of fake Twitter followers. This, I should add, to no one’s surprise. She cheats at everything else; why not at Twitter, too?
I can’t think of many people to whom the saying applies: “There is a special place in hell for her . . .”
Jackanapes.
