The move underlines Ottawa's anger at a decision by Boeing to launch a trade challenge against Canadian planemaker Bombardier

OTTAWA — Canada is scrapping a plan to buy 18 Boeing Super Hornet fighter jets amid a deepening dispute with the U.S. aerospace company, three sources familiar with the matter said on Tuesday.

Instead, the Liberal government will announce next week it intends to acquire a used fleet of older Australia F-18 jets, the same kind of plane Canada currently operates, said the sources, who asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the situation.

The move underlines Ottawa’s anger at a decision by Boeing to launch a trade challenge against Canadian planemaker Bombardier Inc., which the U.S. giant accuses of dumping airliners on the domestic American market.........................

Liberals would rather buy used military hardware and spend billions fixing them than buying new ones.

Like our diesel submarines that have been docked since buying them from Britain.

There is a reason why countries sell old military equipment.

Ironic quote from another article about the issue -- "ask the Australians" turned into buying old F-18s to take them off the hands of Australia.... I'm sure they were happy to unload their old jets for some money:

"It is time for the RCAF to start transitioning to a next-generation fighter jet. The interim solution of 18 Super Hornets makes both fiscal and operational sense. It was and remains a logical course of action. You can ask the Australians, who have incorporated new Super Hornets into their own fleet with much success. They didn’t buy used aircraft!"

What does it matter, really? Canada’s defense policy is ‘call America.’

Apparently Justine not very good at making deals. Can’t wait to see what he does in the NAFTA renegotiations. Well, at least they have lot of illiterate and unskilled “Immigrants” to suck their taxpayers dry.

In that case, we should take ownership and turn Canada into the world’s largest open-air prison for garbage scum we have polluting our major cities.

Maybe Canada needs to contract with Bombardier to build politically correct Canadian Fighter jets. The 2 Canada could buy would fly only to advertise their continually rising spiral of taxes, socialist handouts, and the fact that their soldiers could die in two official languages.( As in Help! Au Secours!). Canada must militarily rely on its ally, good old Uncle Sam, a fact generally kept secret from the largely socialist population of the Socialist Republic of Canadia.

Canada is like Greece, and their fat will soon be in the fire.Meanwhile Trudeau refuses to complete Canada’s east/west oil pipeline system started by former Prime Minister Harper, choosing instead to be in the pockets of the Saudi Princes and OPEC, desporting himself with the Aga Khan in the Carribean:

http://nationalpost.com/news/politics/tories-take-aim-at-127000-bill-for-trudeaus-trip-to-aga-khans-private-island

Few know that Canada has only a standing full time military force of 100,000 in all branches of service, in a nation with the worlds longest contiguous coastline, and 23 million people. Its a military disaster waiting to happen.

Over 50% of the Federal budget in Canada is directly or indirectly dedicated to single payer healthcare. There would go the USA if we did not rid ourselves of Obama care. Our military would be nearly budgeted out of existence.

CANADA: WAKE UP!

So they’re still buying American planes anyway.

Thats a fact! But do you think President Trump would be in any hurry to pick up the phone after the propaganda that the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, ( Canada’s socialist, tax payer funded, propaganda outlet)has been smugly broadcasting about President Trump over the last 2 years? The result is that the majority of Canadians are ill informed about the United States.

Can’t say as I would blame the president much for not answering the phone.

That’s a fact, until the Socialist Trudeau Obama style government can find a much more politically correct decision behind closed doors. They could care less about the readiness of Canada’s military, as long as it remains “bilingual” so that its soldiers can die in two languages.

Two quick searches confirmed what I thought - the F-18 is a McDonnell Douglas plane and M-D has been owned by Boeing for 20 years. Is there a special kind of logic that only works north of the 49th parallel where buying a used Boeing plane is supposed to piss Boeing off since they’ll be selling parts to them forever? I guess it requires a certain amount of Molson to understand how this is supposed to prove a “point” to Boeing.

Just as anti-military as his communist, Fidel hugging old man. Senior Trudeau gutted the Canadian military in the 1970s

According to the LOA, the sales contract, no country may sell US military gear to another country. Prohibited by US law. If a country wants to sell their US military gear (called a third-party transfer), they need US approval.

This sale can’t happen without US government approval.

“... standing full time military force of 100,000 in all branches of service ...”

Thought it was 10000 ... maybe they had a recruiting drive for more officers so there are some 30 officers to each EM most of which are ‘asian’ ...

I wouldn’t try that in Alberta.

This move by Ottawa proves that they don’t give a damn about our county or its people. This is simply them being childish and trying to spite Trump.

Our soldiers are well beyond top notch, ask your delta teams.

Canada was in both world wars long before US. There’s a long list of crazy military accomplishments.

I’m a vet from 2PPCLI. Go ahead and bash our idiot government and their retarded decisions, but leave the military alone. I’ve risked life and limb many times for my southern brothers, you dishonour them too.

If you are Taliban, you don’t anyone from western Canada within 2,000 meters of you. The politicians from Ottawa, on the other hand, can come and hug you.
