Six senators on Wednesday called on fellow Democrat Al Franken to resign, in a jaw-dropping avalanche of statements addressing the latest allegations against the Minnesota senator.
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, kicked things off, publishing a post on Facebook aptly titled Senator Franken Should Step Aside (read here). Democratic Sens. Mazie Hirono of Hawaii, Claire McCaskill of Missouri, Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, Patty Murray of Washington and Kamala Harris of California all followed suit.
This comes on the heels of yet another woman coming forward with allegations of sexual misconduct against Franken, which he has denied as categorically not true.
Gillibrands Facebook statement says that while she has considered Franken a friend, this moment of reckoning about our friends and colleagues who have been accused of sexual misconduct is necessary, and it is painful.
Hirono immediately followed suit, publishing a thread on Twitter explaining her decision:

Sen Flake, do you have a comment?
Didn’t think so.
they aren’t turning on him. they are trying to save their party.
stick to your guns al, unless you’re guilty of course.
Hey Democrats. When will you call for Bill Clinton to give up his Presidential pension?
So, when the hundreds of allegations against Trump come out will Franken say Trump has the right to call his accusers liars?
And even if he were not replaced by an appointment, it would be up to the kooky Minnesota electorate who previously "elected" Franken and Jesse Ventura.
It is par for the course among all shades of Left. Men rule and, among Communists and other varieties of liberals, women are adjuncts. Free Love and what is now called Women’s Liberation is, according to Lenin, to establish a Community of Women, that is all women are sexually available to the ruling men.Marriage excludes women from that status and is thus a limit on the rulers who need to have universal access. Marriage has to go.
Franken will resign on Friday and between Friday and Tuesday the Democrats will go balls to the wall against Moore.
December surprise.
Watch all of their "concern" evaporate after Roy Moore is elected Senator. This is all just drama playing for the cameras and the election.
I think Al Franken is a smarmy asshole. On top of that I (obviously) hate his politics. But some of these allegations, including this one, reek of plain old lying. I want him kicked out for what he’s done, not because someone broke the 9th Commandment.
Interesting....obama golden child Kamila Harris is on that list.
How many times did they recount that election, before they found enough votes to make the Democrat win?
Why is it that in all these contested elections, they recount over and over until the democrat wins, then stop?
This is ridiculous, they are doing this for attention. Everybody knows democrats are immune to the law and do not have to have any morals or integrity. Just leave Al alone!
And the Republicans in the senate will be with the Dems. I wish a decent person was in the senate so he could record all the conspiracies in the meetings. They’ll never allow Moore to attend any meetings.
Very much enjoying the ‘Frankenfreude’!
Their party is officially called the “Democratic Party”.
Trump and GOP should float some names of some prominent women conservatives for WI. No way will the governor elect them, but the drama would be good.
Franken will make an announcement tomorrow. It looks like he’s resigning!

Several times over many months. It was provably and blatantly fraud-prone. Not to mention that many felon votes were allowed in the count.
Can you imagine the slandering that would be going on against Tweeden if she didn’t have photographic evidence?
“Franken will resign on Friday and between Friday and Tuesday the Democrats will go balls to the wall against Moore.”
You might be right, but I don’t think the Dems have the $$$ to defend Franken’s seat next fall. Minnesota will have to hold a special election. It’s a special election the Dems can’t afford :-).
Minnesota isn’t “safe blue”. Trump lost the state by a mere 1.5%. If the economy keeps rolling and Trump is successful with another major piece of legislation, talks of a “blue wave” will turn towards a “red wave” in the Senate.
I’m sure the Dems will attempt some legal shenanigans if Franken resigns. That’ll backfire in their face ... the Republicans, led by Trump, seem to be fighting back these days. The Dems know that and they’re petrified.
Now, assuming they try and sweep Franken’s issues under the rug and let him stay ... I wonder who will be the first to play the race card and point out that Conyers was forced out, but the lily white guy gets to stay :-) ... they really need to force that issue home :-).
I never thought a Trump Presidency would be so much fun :-).
