~ The FReeper Canteen Presents ~

~ Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941 ~

On Sunday, December 7th, 1941 the Japanese launched a surprise attack against the U.S. Forces stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. By planning his attack on a Sunday, the Japanese commander Admiral Nagumo, hoped to catch the entire fleet in port. As luck would have it, the Aircraft Carriers and one of the Battleships were not in port. (The USS Enterprise was returning from Wake Island, where it had just delivered some aircraft. The USS Lexington was ferrying aircraft to Midway, and the USS Saratoga and USS Colorado were undergoing repairs in the United States.) In spite of the latest intelligence reports about the missing aircraft carriers (his most important targets), Admiral Nagumo decided to continue the attack with his force of six carriers and 423 aircraft. At a range of 230 miles north of Oahu, he launched the first wave of a two-wave attack. Beginning at 0600 hours his first wave consisted of 183 fighters and torpedo bombers which struck at the fleet in Pearl Harbor and the airfields in Hickam, Kaneohe and Ewa. The second strike, launched at 0715 hours, consisted of 167 aircraft, which again struck at the same targets. At 0753 hours the first wave consisting of 40 Nakajima B5N2 "Kate" torpedo bombers, 51 Aichi D3A1 "Val" dive bombers, 50 high altitude bombers and 43 Zeros struck airfields and Pearl Harbor. Within the next hour, the second wave arrived and continued the attack.

Whew, thankfully he wasn't president at the time and we didn't have a president like him at the time!

Kind of funny you posted that "newspaper". I've been digging through the pix of items at the military museum close by, knowing there was a pic of a newspaper from the day after the Pearl Harbor bombing. FINALLY found it.

It hurts to think of all the bright futures lost on that day and during the course of the war, any war our men have fought.

They deserve so much more attention and respect than they get from most.

I remember and honor these days and throw a few bucks towards a cause for wounded vets. That’s not Nearly enough and I shall endeavor to do more this year.

A lot are still hurting from Iraq and Afghanistan and they deserve ours and the president’s help.

I’m sure now with Trump in office that neither will let them down.

Good evening, Pro...did your hurt back allow you to work today?

Yes, I think you are right....9-11-2001 was a very patriotic time in our more current history. It saddens me that it didn’t last.

Good evening, radu...checks printed, but, boy, what a day.

Hope you got some rain. Unfortunately we are expecting some.

The big storm that was supposed to dump several inches of snow missed us.

Did you “work” at the museum today? Fun stuff?

Howdy, PRO.

You’re probably right. The way we felt after 9/11 is probably closer than anything to how they felt after Pearl Harbor.

How’s your back today? I hope you aren’t coping with a setback after working today.

Sounds like you’re glad it’s over. Since we saw very little of you the past two days, it must have been a toughie.

We got an inch and a half of rain yesterday and did we ever need it. It was a good soaking 12 hour rain.
Now it’s BRRRRR cold and will be for a while. Oh well, it IS December. LOL

Yes, I went to the museum today and cleaned up more uniforms. There’s a noticeable dent in the pile but there’s still a looooooong way to go.

Hey radu!

I was pretty gimpy when I went to work but just walking around, (A LOT!), helped to cure the pain and I went from about 70% healed this AM to 95% now, feeling good, thanks.

I wonder if we'll ever experience that post-9-11 patriotism ever again?

How wuz yer day?

Thanks for keeping this ‘alive’

Like we say...

Had it not been for Pearl Harbor, Hiroshima would probably NEVER had happened.

Today ‘we’ would call the ABomb ‘Karma’ for an attack on 12/7/41 or as ‘we’ learned it ‘What goes around, comes around.
