AZTEC, N.M. (AP) The Latest on a shooting at a New Mexico high school (all times local): 10:25 a.m. Authorities say three people are dead following a shooting at a New Mexico high school. San Juan County Sheriff Ken Christesen told reporters that three people believed to be students died Thursday at Aztec High School. He says the shooter also was dead but didn't say if the suspect was among the three. Authorities said they had cleared all the buildings at the school and that students were boarding buses to another location where they could be reunited with their parents. Deputies with the sheriff's office and surrounding police departments responded to the school after reports of a shooting.

So the root cause of this crime is snowflak-itudeness.
Just picked up 2 grandsons from their elementary school in Aztec due to early out. Have lived in the county over 45 yrs, 4 miles from Aztec the last 20. I hope your buyer after living there found out that if you choose to live in New MEXICO, that you will run into Hispanics now and then (over 60% of NM population). The natives on the whole are laid back honest folks, the Hispanics are hard working and no more prone to thievery than any other group. The county is quite a melting pot and pretty peaceful. We'll have to see what the whys/whats etc. of this shooting turn out to be.
Yes there are. The rural areas have a history of meth labs due to the small population density and wide areas for few law enforcement assets. The region 2 drug task force do a couple of high profile raids a year, but the courts don't seem to send the dealers to the slammer, just probation.
I was there about 10 years ago, on a camping tour of the southwest, and I distinctly remember the crummy housing that almost directly abutted the ruins.
I remember having to drive past them to get to the ruins, and wondering if I took a wrong turn. the song “Lowrider” played in my head.
But the ruins were amazing. I felt honored to be able to see them.
One thing about small towns, drugs spread through them quickly.
As a kid I lived on Ruins Road just south of the ruins, and on Lover’s lane. Was this high school built on or near the old drive in movie theater there as we passed it going home on Blanco, then cut north to Lover’s Lane.
***The rural areas have a history of meth labs ***
Sad but true. Where I live now,(Arkansas) we had a met lab raid about 100 yards from our house. Man and his wife went to prison, and the ground was so contaminated it had to be scraped and put in blue barrels for disposal
A friend of ours over in the edge of Oklahoma had renters in her trailer houses so contaminate the trailers she had to have it destroyed. Again it was meth labs.
Yes, just a block South of Blanco and east of where Lovers Ln meets Mesa Verde.
We just got off the phone with my brother-in-law in Farmington.
His daughter works in Aztec and I don’t think her son is going to school there now. They are monitoring the situation.
He says the school had metal detectors and very good security and can’t figure how the shooter got a firearm into the school.
But then, I remember how students used to find all ways to do things behind the teacher’s backs back in the 1960s.
THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's exactly what they'll do, like clockwork.
Las time I picked up a granddaughter from there, an Aztec Police cruiser was parked there in a marked parking spot and the school resource officer from Aztec PD was assigned full time to the school, same as the Farmington high schools. They haven't reported yet if shooting was inside a building or outside. Guess stashing a gun outside could foil having to go thru the detectors. No telling how long till the full scenario is made public.
