“She was still squatting to husk corn when she was in her 90s.”

Sound like a great lady! But why did she squat while cornhusking - or do you mean when out in the field?

Some ears don’t get completely husked even when harvested by modern equipment. Seed corn is harvested wet enough so that the kernels stay attached to the ear better during the rough and tumble harvest, and processing. To get dried down evenly the ears finally pass by workers that make sure all husks are removed. Maybe years ago folks squatted next to corn piles, picking through, looking for ears that needed husks removed. I know my knees wouldn’t want to squat for very long. Anyway, that’s my speculation on the matter vaguely brought up.
