It seems like having direct conditions without too many pre-conditions have been hinted at for a while...not sure there's anything "new" here.

Oops. I meant to say “direct negotiations” not “direct conditions”.

Distorted news to make it look like they are “backing down” or something.

I think Tillerson is simply making sure that NK and the rest of the world know we’re ready to talk, but some things must precede any discussions. Then when Rocket Boy again ignores us, that we have shown the world that negotiations are impossible, paving the way for a preemptive strike if NK doesn’t stop all launching and testing.
Then there’s this business of the “refugee preparations” just across the Yalu River in China. I think China knows where this is going already.

I think with this statement Tillerson is out on a limb by himself.
That has never been US Policy. And I’m betting it’s not Trump’s policy either.
I believe Trump will either fire him, or publicly rebuke him.

No. No. No.
N.K. demands direct U.S.-N.K only negotiations, without South Korea, because N.K. does not accept the legitimacy of the government of the South Korea. To the N.K. South Korea is just a “puppet”.
It is wrong for the U.S. to have U.S.-N.K direct talks, that exclude South Korea. Do so gives legitimacy to the N.K. claim that the U.S. and U.S. alone can make peace with N.K. It cannot not. Doing so will only endanger South Korea.
If Tillerson is really thinking of doing this, because that’s what the “professionals” at Foggy Bottom want to do, Trump should fire him.

What is it about the State Department? It seems to be a nest of pacifists run by a Liberal. And not just this Administration either.
