These so-called "bad candidates" wouldn't be so bad if they weren't fragged by their own side.

On a continuum, I wouldn't put O'Donnell and Moore at the same end of the spectrum. Akin and Mourdock would be in the middle, with the "winnable" line somewhat moveable if the GOP were to actually stand behind a candidate in early trouble.

A lot of what ends up as "bad candidates" don't have to be if they are properly managed early. I know that McConnell isn't going away short of an undisclosed tumor, but I believe that a lot of what is seen as bad candidates is really bad leadership not willing to embrace some candidates.

So how do you plan on changing the “bad” leadership?

Like I said we can’t just wish them away. McConnell & Paul Ryan are certainly not the best conservatives. But voters can’t do anything about it soon. They were selected by majority of other republican critters in congress.

So as voters, what can we do? To repeat from my previous suggestion, we have to take matter in our own hands, study to see which candidate would fare best in general against the democrat (likely much more liberal) and nominate that candidate.

As a start, I won't misdirect the blame.

I support what Bannon is trying to do, which is to start a national organized movement to target RINO entrenched incumbents in primaries. Bannon was not responsible for Alabama selecting Moore in the primary, but he backed him in the general once he was selected. McConnell openly targeted Brooks in the primary, and then kept his distance from Moore in the general even before the WaPo hit piece came out (it's unclear if McConnell even had a hand in it).

Bannon is putting fear into McConnell's cohorts by making them have to look over their shoulder, which is why articles like this are trying to pin the blame on Bannon to make him toxic to potential challengers when the 2018 elections begin.

What I can do is not fall for it.

Alabama voters knew Moore and Brooks very well and overwhelmingly selected Moore over Brooks. McConnell didn’t support Brooks or Moore and it’s very hard to win a national race without the help of your own party. McConnell should retire. He will fight Trumps agenda as long as long as he’s senate majority leader. I just wish Trump would realize this and work to get rid of his sorry ass.

Since Moore’s top agenda in his speeches was to be anti-McConnell, why blame McConnell to be anti-Moore?

If Moore was smart, he should not have openly declared he was anti-McConnell, the majority leader, who has lot of power to direct campaign funds.

Since Moore’s top agenda in his speeches was to be anti-McConnell, why blame McConnell to be anti-Moore?

I blame McConnell for influencing the primary by attacking Brooks and Moore with his PAC. Moore benefitted by the law of unintended consequences. Like I said earlier, I think McConnell expected disaffected Brooks voters to migrate to Strange, but they voted for Moore.

If Moore was smart, he should not have openly declared he was anti-McConnell, the majority leader, who has lot of power to direct campaign funds.

During the primary, McConnell was attacking both Moore and Brooks with false ads taking their views out of context, even though Moore and Brooks were only saying they'd vote against McConnell as leader.

McConnell went "scorched earth" on fellow Republicans in the Alabama primary. I believe if he'd stayed out of it and let the three of them duke it out, it might have turned out differently for Republicans.

My bottom line is still that Bannon is not to blame, this article is agitprop intended to toxify Bannon to potential 2018 challengers, and what we can do about it is to ignore it and continue to support Bannon's effort (which is what you asked).

I agree that Bannon is not to be blamed.

90% of blame falls on Moore being politically inept.
10% of blame falls on GOPe in opposing Moore.

I'll say that:

50% of blame falls on Moore being politically inept.
40% of blame falls on McConnell for fragging his own side in the primary.
10% of blame falls on GOPe in opposing Moore.
