As Trump boldly fires up American success, Canada stumbles along weakly
National Post ^ | December 15, 2017 | Conrad Black

The year ends with Canada in an oddly satisfied state of mind, politically. The United States is about to pass a tax cut and simplification bill that will excuse a majority of Americans from personal income tax altogether, enable 80 per cent of income tax payers to file their returns on a post card, reduce the top personal rate to 37 per cent and the corporate rate to 21 per cent.

A bit long, but very logical and fact filled.

Nice prospective from an observer in Canada.

Trudeau failed to get a TPP agreement, he failed to get a China agreement, and he’s failing at the revised NAFTA agreement.

Progressives suck at world trade.

The Obama-Clinton view

of a lumpenproletariat sustained by the social safety network and half-sedated with Medicaid-provided tranquilizers, with little economic growth, high taxes, generous breaks for the rich Wall Street, Hollywood, and Silicon Valley champions of the regime

Conrad Black is a superb writer.

BTW, If just reading this article makes you feel smarter; it might be because it’s written at grade level 25*, while most newspaper articles are written at the grade 8 level.

* According to the tests on this site: https://readable.io/text/

BTW 2, for those who don’t know. Black was a “Press Baron”, before being victim of a process that bore a lot of resemblance to the whole Russia witch-hunt taking place today. He lost his media empire — but, he remains an actual Baron & sits in the House of Lords in the U.K.

I think that's by statute. The CBO is not allowed to, say, consider the elasticity of output given the predictable effects of proposed laws and regulation.

A congresscritter that taught economics once demonstrated the absurdity of the CBO process by asking them to compute the revenue from a 100% tax rate on income.

Obviously, anything much above $0.00 is total BS.

The CBO came back with something near or above previous year's Federal take.

Conrad Black was the guy who sold the Chicago Sun Times building to Trump — the same site where the current Chicago Trump Tower sits.

Interesting, I didn’t know that. Black is a Trump supporter, and it’s likely they partied and hung out together in one of the secret patriarchy club houses.

Canada’s only chance to compete with the US now is with genuine tax reform. IE replacing the income tax altogether, an opportunity we missed once again. Hopefully their conservative leadership will recognize the opportunity.

Pierre Trudeau is really the guy who made Canada the whipped hangdog loser UN member-country that it is today. I’m so glad that Buttcrack Hussein didn’t succeed in doing that to us. He sure gave it the ole college try, though.

But ask any lib, Canada is superior to the US in every way. Their people are so enlightened, there’s no crime (anybody that really thinks that, watch ‘Under Arrest’ on Netflix).

Anytime I watch anything from Canada, I immediately notice that it looks like Anytown, USA circa 1976. Their hair, bad skin, piece of crap cars, junky houses, everything.

I’ll tell you what opened my eyes to terrible press writing: when I was a 20 year old Navy guy living in Virginia, I once went to lunch at a restaurant that had old WWII-era newspapers shellacked into all of the tables. I sat down, started reading the table while waiting for my food, and completely forgot about the newspaper I’d brought. It was fascinating. It really struck me how different the WWII-era newspapers were from the modern-day liberal-mouthpiece fish-wrap that’s nearly our only choice these days. That was 1991 and the press hasn’t gotten any smarter since then. It’s one thing to talk about it, it’s really striking when you see it.
