The two biggest reasons I loath Carter.
Carter’s easy loans for farmers caused them to spend unnecessarily. Many dairy farmers purchased Harvestor Silos with the money and then defaulted on the loans.
More than one farmer died by jumping off the Harvestor Silo.

When I was in ag college years ago, I did a cost comparison between a 350 acre diverse farm using horsepower and a 350 acre diverse farm using tractor power and the associated expensive equipment. The farm using horse power won out:
of course, its a given that the operators were young vigorous people.
