Alabama, one of the most conservative states in the country, with one of the most evangelical electorates, is sending an abortion-rights supporter to the U.S. Senate, despite GOP efforts to paint Democrat Doug Jones as an unacceptable extremist on the issue.
Certainly, any analysis of what Jones upset over Roy Moore means for other races involves a caveat: The Republican nominee was twice ousted from the state Supreme Court and stood accused of sexual misconduct with minors, baggage that gave Jones an opening in a state that hadnt elected a Democratic senator since 1992.
Yet Jones could not have won without crossover votes from conservative Republicans who oppose abortion, and thats just what he did.
Exit polls show Jones won a third of voters who said abortion should be illegal in most cases, and 27 percent of those who want it outlawed completely.
These numbers suggest that abortion may not necessarily be a defining issue in the 2018 midterm elections.

Poor choice of wording in THAT headline.
Now it’s about how everyone agrees with them on issues, as if they ran an issue based fair and square campaign. Don’t you just love liberals?
Jones had no chance of beating anyone without the help of the Republican establishment.
Take one state, with an election which has absolutely no meaning regarding the abortion issue, except that people who are anti-abortions chose “the lesser of two evils”, and then go and extrapolate that into meaning that the whole country will not care about the abortion issue in the next round of elections.
The AP keeps making things up, but, they know that the low-information voters might take it for granted that the voters in Alabama and the rest of the country will no longer care about the abortion issue.
The AP could not be “more wronger”.
Jones had no chance of beating anyone without
the help of the Republican establishment.

Jones don’t have to worry about winning until 2020.
Nonsense. The only conclusion to be drawn from the election is the Dems cheated, again, as usual.
And millions in out of state dollars.
Thanks Olog-hai. More reason for breaking AP under Sherman Anti-Trust. Partisan Media Shill ping.
The fact that many Republicans stayed home because they weren’t comfortable sending Creepy Roy to the Senate has nothing to do with their views on abortion.
...an abortion-rights supporter to the U.S. Senate, despite GOP efforts to paint Democrat Doug Jones as an unacceptable extremist on the issue.
Because in the AP’s universe, full-term abortions are *not* extremist.
I’ve said for years that people in the USA who are “anti-abortion” lack commitment. They are “pro-life” on paper, but when political reality hits, they are inclined to move to the left and not think twice about doing so.
These media act as if there was not 24/7 smearing of Moore as a child molester.
As if Jones eked out a win due to his political positions.
.
As long as liberals think that, all is well.
The Uniparty’s RINO wing is pro-abortion and with each year that passes, they become more open about it.
Abortion will never become back tier issue ...
