Gallup: 20% Say 'Government' Is Top Problem; Health Care 2nd, 'Taxes' at Bottom of List

Americans' top concerns on the most important problem list in 2017 focused more on how government operates than on any particular domestic or international policy issue. Only about one in five mention any aspect of the economy as the top problem, and there is no one specific policy issue that pops up as a dominant concern.

Rather, Americans appear to be most worried about the way in which their government operates and about the people who occupy positions of leadership in the U.S. -- including the 20% who mention the government per se, and another 7% who mention the need to unify the country. Coupled with that are smaller, but significant, percentages of Americans who are concerned about the lack of ethics and decline of morality, and the lack of respect Americans have for one another.

I can tell that this survey is not honest, by virtue of the fact that Student Loan Debt is not even mentioned as an issue.

Like it or not, for people under 40 this is a HUGE issue. Most that I encounter will not stop whining about it.

Also remember about 50% of our fellow citizens pay NO income tax... so taxes are “no problem.”

Misleading. Large portion of that 50% are underage children or oldsters out of the work force.

Call blocker apps. Door cameras. Yep, people are very selective about social contact these days.
Nobody just picks up the ringing phone anymore.
Why? People have much fatigue about the thought police? Can't really figure.I just know I have no interest in associating with the media creating narratives to shove in my face.
NFL too. Same feeling. Fatigued about hating whitey etc.Attacking my God, my race, my age, My country!! my preference fro Trump etc. Screw em. This is the end of my rambling screed.

> Might be because 10% of the Population pays 70% of the Taxes. > ...70% of INCOME taxes, but 10% of ? IMO, when we're spouting off stats, it should be as precise as possible. I really should research myself.../nah :) People vs. small-biz vs. corp tax rates vs. % of population which has a % of working-age members

“Health care” is not a problem. Getting someone else to pay for it is the problem.

Like it or not, for people under 40 this is a HUGE issue. Most that I encounter will not stop whining about it.

My Dad had the solution for that and it has stuck with me since I was a kid (Although I tested it once or twice) It's really simple, actually.

Dad said "Don't borrow money."

And that's how I became a member of the United Rubber Workers when I was in college. My hands were black for weeks after I quit the job at the tire factory and I never could get a date because my clothes always smelled like burning rubber since I went to school straight from getting off the graveyard shift at the factory....

But I have never had to worry about paying off a loan. At 68 I have now been comfortably retired for over ten years with zero debt and a nice nest egg.

It's no secret. If you don't want crushing debt, don't borrow money. Save up and pay cash. The government has no obligation to save you from your own profligacy.
