Black Alabamians Carried Doug Jones To Victory — And It Should Be A Warning To Democrats For 2018

Black Alabamians deserve much of the credit for Democrat Doug Jones' stunning victory in the deep red state's US Senate special election last Tuesday.

Turning out to vote in much higher-than-predicted numbers last week, black voters are being described as the "backbone" of the Democratic Party, but some on the left argue that much more needs to be done to both serve and energize black communities to ensure their engagement in crucial elections in 2018 and 2020.

A multipronged approach to mobilizing black voters

Guy Cecil, the chairman of Priorities USA, a progressive super PAC that invested heavily in the Alabama race, said the effort to reach black voters was multifaceted, with a heavy focus on digital advertising and grassroots mobilization.

Black Alabamians made up 30% of the electorate, slightly more than in 2008 and 2012 when Barack Obama was on the ballot, according to exit polls. And 96% of them voted for Jones, helping him edge Republican Roy Moore by about 1.5 percentage points overall.

Priorities USA poured $1.5 million into a digital ad campaign, nearly $1 million of which was spent targeting 1.4 million black Alabamians on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Pandora, Google, and other online platforms.

Some ads were specifically targeted at black communities, showing footage of white supremacist marches and Donald Trump rallies while a woman talked about the importance of education for children of color.

That confirms my observations and statements I made on election day.

I didn't think they'd get Blacks to turn out where two White males were running. Black females carried the load for Jones.

There are some counties her that are almost 100% Black. I saw one stat where Jones got 88% of the vote for that county.

the hidden nugget: Black voters are expecting to be PAID for this support. This will create an interesting conundrum for Democrats who, in many cases, have already promised the paycheck to Hispanics.

"I saw one stat where Jones got 88% of the vote for that county."

BTW, that's also the county that gave Algore the highest % of the vote for president of any county in history.

Progs and their ideological servants will vote for anyone that promises free stuff and abortions.

The manufactured sex scandal is an awesome weapon against us. The Left can use that to drive enough Conservatives to stay home to win almost any election now.

These "analyses" of Jones' victory by Democrats and their allies are inevitably cases of wishful thinking bordering on the delusional.

Doug Jones won Alabama (by a slim margin) for one reason and one reason only - Roy Moore's sex scandals. Had his accusers not come forward at just the "right" political moment (which makes their claims all the less plausible), Jones would have lost by double digits. The Alabamans who gave Trump a big victory in the 2016 election didn't suddenly become liberal Democrats, they just chose not to vote for Moore because of the teen sex allegations against him.

There is no move to the Left in Southern States, and there's no political strategy or set of winning issues for Democrats to replicate in other Deep Red States, unless their strategy is going to be the digging up dubious sex scandals on all of their opponents from now on.

If Alabama is a little over a quarter black, a little over 30% minority, it seems any election can be close to within reason because, just playing the demographic game, that would mean one would have to get about 20-25% of the white vote to put an election in play. It’s almost a wonder that others like Trump won Alabama so big. It shows, who wins elections is often, who gets their base out.

If Trump gives them jobs they’ll be to tired to vote on election day. Less likely to riot on impulse.

There may be no move to the left but there is a demographic change occurring.

Democrats can't win on issues when working and middle class whites are a majority, which is why opening the borders to the Third World and granting citizenship to illegals who are already here is such an important issue to them.

Anyone who takes any form of public assistance, including corporate welfare, should not be allowed to vote for 20 years after the cessation of said assistance.

Make that one change and you change America for the good - permanently.

As noted the real problem was the missing Trump voters who did not turn out for Moore.

The blame for that lies entirely with McConnell and his hit team who paid for the false allegations against Moore.

That’s the thing I note as well. The votes are not couched as a civic responsibility to see that the best qualified person (in the voter’s opinion) goes to Washington, they’re couched as transactions.

I give you a vote, you give me ____ what? With the implication that it should be material and it should be as close to a quid pro quo as the law allows, or moreso.
