Silicon Valley and the Search for Meatless Meat

You are correct - I read the excerpt and assumed it was plant-based proteins.

But reading the article raised even more questions. The comment from the consultant seemed to hit it right on - people want simple and clean food, yet now these food scientists want to sell bioengineered food grown in a lab, with many dozens of ingredients. That’s quite a disconnect.

I also sense quite a bit of ideological blindness and arrogance from its inventors. Sure, they have money to burn, but trying to change people’s tastes due to one’s concern over “global warming” is a fool’s errand. They may find it easier to instead engineer humans’ and their tastes to enjoy eating plant protiens instead.

I always see things in terms of money - and in my view, such a project is one of many fantasy projects, founded in the vast sums of money which have pooled in silicon valley over the years, due to massive debt, blowing huge asset bubbles in tech, in manipulated interest rates and our fiat currency.

All true, but consider the $4T of corporate earnings that has been sitting offshore waiting for lower tax rates to be enacted before being repatriated back to the USA.

Trump just mentioned that number at the WH celebration. Now use the std 10x econ multiplier, and we're looking at $40T of potential funds to be invested in a wide range of capital projects. Whether infrastructure, healthcare or technology, the financial markets are correctly assessing the economic lid is going to blow during the latter 201x

Throughout the historical record, there have been many times where certain conditions come together to form the perfect (positive) economic storm. Americans have been carrying the burden of a criminal/corrupt government for 28 years, with only a few sectors - like SV - benefiting. When you have a combination of suddenly available, ready capital and major (latent) technical breakthroughs, well, Nelly, bar the door. LOL

FR has only existing during this time period; imagine if it existed during other, more positive periods. So, the only experience in many people's lives has been a constant, unrelenting encroachment of liberty & freedom. But, the worm has turned, and it's time for many to recognize what is occurring. I know there's an instinctive reaction to change, but shit's gonna' be happening fast now.
