Depends on what you call “entitlement”.
Mess with my Social Security and I *WILL* do everything in my power to take you down, regardless of any other position we may share.
Throw some perfectly able bodied bums off of disability and no problem.
You nailed it. The reforms wouldn’t even be supported here on FR.
In before the attacks on us seniors for expecting to get SS after making involuntary payments into it all of our working lives.
It had better be.....
Throw him out. Drain the swamp.
True!
Then they can tackle it in 2019 after the Midterms.
uhh.....Mitch, here’s a clue.....the Democrats ARE NEVER GOING TO BE INTERESTED IN ENTITLEMENT REFORM!!!!!!
Does anybody still need proof of that?
Watching out for your self interest is the most fundamental aspect of human nature, to expect anything else from a person, especially a politician, is to be a fool.
Thats what entitlement reform means to most people - getting rid of somebodys elses benefits while keeping theirs. Thats why entitlement reform will never pass. The tax cuts are a roundabout way of cutting social security since our debt load grows increasingly unsustainable. However Im afraid that it just makes the case for a tax increase down the road since nobody will stomach cuts to Medicare or social security.
There are two different things called ‘social security’.
The one us geezers are counting on can be made solvent pretty easily, jack the retirement age up a few years, a few tweaks...
The disability part is a scam and wealth transference of the first order.
Negative. FDR did more damage to the US than both of them combined.
I'll add the bums drawing VA disability pensions also. $3000/mo tax free for "PTSD"...
It’s not your Social Security. It wasn’t in a trust fund or a lock box. It’s a transfer of payments. From the paychecks, currently, of 2.8 working stiffs to your pockets. You can get irate, but that won’t change the math. You’d be better off spending some time on your knees, praying the economy keeps growing.
It’s worse then just a “transfer of payments” structurally its a Ponzi Scheme. Those who work pay for the current crop of retirees just like the retirees did when they were working. Google Ida Mae Fuller - During her lifetime she collected a total of $22,888.92 in Social Security benefits and paid in $24.75. There have been tens if not hundreds of thousands of Ida Mae Fullers. When the system was set you were not supposed to make it to 65! This was so there would always be greater numbers of people paying in then taking out. That’s not true now. All of it was set up based on 1930s population dynamics. Guess what? It changed! The insurance industry warned FDR and his band of geniuses that this would happen. However FDR and crew all knew better, they were Ivy League grads & lawyers to boot! Those type of people know everything!
Years lost in space a few moments of Trump praise back to normal...
Why do the democRATs get to set the agenda for a Republican controlled Senate? Show some spine, Mitch!
And this is why America is doomed. The democRATs have gotten even "conservatives" addicted to Big Daddy Government. A strictly limited government in a constitutional republic was a good idea. Too bad we couldn't make it work.
That money was taken from people who in many if not most cases were rendered incapable of saving much else for retirement, it was sold as a pension of sorts and has functioned as such despite decades of plunder. If you want to view it as some sort of entitlement despite all this you go right ahead but it’s political suicide and I hope no one listens to you or anyone else with such opinions on the subject.
its political suicide
Leaving socialist insecurity in place unaltered is economic suicide. But go ahead: put your fingers in your ears and scream "LALALALALALA!!!" It'll make you feel better.
