They can’t go outside that area. Since some are going as far as a mile to a mile and a half laterally there’s only room for just a few wells if they went horizontal. Vertical or horizontal it doesn’t matter, you still have to own the lease above it. You can’t run out laterally just because you own the 40 acres the drilling location sits on, your confined to that acreage. The old falsehood of a producer drilling under somebody else’s property is just that, totally false. Log’s and records are kept throughout the drilling process and have state and federal over site.
Understood, very well - I own a few acres of mineral rights myself. But that isnt the same thing in ANWR, because the government owns all the land, and the only issue is how much (of the super scarce, dont you know </sarcasm> ) pristine wilderness (otherwise known as desolate, mosquito-infested when not frozen, land) gets disturbed. Including, if not especially, the necessary road.
I think we need a couple of new refineries, too....
