'Madrid has received a slap in the face from Catalonia':(tr)

Exiled leader Carles Puigdemont said the Catalan people have 'sent a message to the world' as he hailed victory for separatists in regional elections on Thursday night.

Pro-independence parties won an outright majority with 99 per cent of votes counted setting up a fresh showdown with Madrid and issuing a sharp rebuke to EU leaders who backed the unionist cause.

Speaking from exile in Brussels, Mr Puigdemont he said he and his government must be allowed to return to Spain where there is currently a warrant out for his arrest.

He also branded the result a 'slap in the face' to Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy who had called the election after kicking Mr Puigdemont from office.

The result was announced after Barcelona police were put on alert for a potential lone wolf terror attack, though it later transpired the suspect had left the country.

'We need to free all prisoners, we need to return to our country and we need to start the most important process, which is politics, something Mr Rajoy has never done,' Mr Puigdemont told reporters in Belgium.

'We need to listen to the wishes of Catalan people... we have earned our right to be listened to.'

This should be a lesson to the gun grabbers, although you know they won't pay attention. One side has lots of money and want to have more voice in their affairs, perhaps even break away completely. The other side has lots of guns. One side voluntarily disarmed themselves because they believed the government would protect them. The other side has lots of guns. One side wanted to hold an election and even the local police refused to interfere because they thought it was right. The other side sent in regional police and started cracking heads. The exiled Catalan leader will remain exiled and there isn't a thing Catalonians can do about it because they put their faith in government to protect them.

Catalans are fighting the EUSSR, for their national identity.

Nigel Farage is very sympathetic to nationalism and very sympathetic to the Catalan aspirations is Farage is no Islamist.

The Nigel Farage Show discussed the election before the final results came in.

The pro-EUSSR media will manage to blame it on Putin.

If the leader of the largest pro-Madrid party weren’t attractive and female, Puidgemont may have done better
