GOP Sen. Richard Shelby of Alabama, who chairs the Rules Committee, said further particulars cannot be made public, in order to respect the confidentiality afforded to victims.

“While the Rules Committee has been eager to provide this information in a transparent manner, it has been our priority to protect the victims involved in these settlements from further harm,” the senator said in a statement attending the report.

That’s OUR freakin money they’re handing out. It should be taken out of their checks/retirement. It’ll still be our money, but, I’ll feel better about it.

Exactly right—no need whatsoever to publish the names of the victims. But the names and faces of the predators should be plastered EVERYWHERE as a public service.

Same here - Doug Jones used his statement about “voting a write in candidate” in his campaign ads. I wonder if he (Shelby) will run again, though. He’s in his 80’s. I hope not.

Maybe. I don’t know what the legal agreements were.

The article says that they are interested in protecting the victims.
SO (I am reading into it)

There will be a reluctance to name the perps so they can ‘protect the victim’.

Catch 22 at its finest... or protecting their own at its utmost.

Screw that, Dick. We won't forget come January, or whenever the hell you and your fellow perverts return to work.

I am responding to the point the accusers have to prove it. Of course they do. That’s due process 101

The report claims they didn't pay any money for sex harrassment/groping/assault etc. However, how many of those claims might be categorized "euphemistically" e.g. "sex harrassment" -> "sex discrimination?" The important thing is the money!

Yeah, of course, we want to keep the names out of it to protect the victims.

I remember Senator Shelby, who all concerned about the "morals" of Roy Moore.

Sounds like Schlepby needs the teeth beaten out of his lying face...

These are sociopaths we're talking about.

What do you think sociopaths do?

I think when someone makes accusations they have to prove them. It doesn’t matter what they are. If they re sociopaths it will come out in the investigation.

I came here to make one point. Accusers have to prove their accusations. It is basic american concept of due process. I am tired of pointing out this one point I wanted to make and I am leaving this thread. Good night.

Senator Shelby needs to be taken out.

He backstabbed Roy Moore with his last minute write-in push.

Shelby is the patron saint of the north Alabama technology corridor and his vote of no confidence mattered. He made educated suburbanites and evangelicals in the northern part of the state comfortable with the idea of staying home.

If Shelby had just stayed his usual silent self, Moore probably would have won. But he had to break character and actually say something for a change. Alabama’s silent senator piped up to backstab Moore.

I’d like to see him pay a price for that.

I will not be the one to cast the first stone, I am not nor have ever been perfect, just forgiven by my Savior, The Lord Jesus Christ.
The issue is not that these predators are predators and truly deserving their just deserts, but that they have so grossly abused their sacred oath of office before the people under the greatest governing document ever devised by man.
First, These members of congress and any tax dollars paid for “hush” money should be made public under the FOIA before end of this year, period. Second, each member abusing their position of office either elected or appointed should immediately resign from office or service within our government. Third, any and all monies paid or expensed on behalf or these individuals should immediately be recovered directly or through forfeiture of properties, assets, or garnished wages with interest. Fourth, these individuals should be banned for life from performing under any government contract as an individual/owner/or owning stocks affiliated with companies involved in government contracts or services and be banned from being registered lobbyists and/or working for/with/ or advising registered lobbyists both foreign or domestic. Fifth, full forfeiture of any government pensions qualified for in any way based upon services performed after any settlement date and in the event the pensions were received due to service as an elected member of congress all pensions and benefits are immediately forfeit.
Our great nation cannot become truly great again unless and until one’s Oath of Office and one’s Honor and Integrity become Paramount Virtues that are demanded by the citizenry of our elected officials.
These individuals have broken the public trust and cannot in good conscience continue to serve. Although we have all sinned and come short of the Glory of God, when we accept positions of trust, we must strive every day to live up to the standards of honor and integrity sworn to, expected of, and demanded by that sacred oath of office at every level of governance in this our great nation.
I know this is a long post, but the guilty know who they are and duty and honor demands these individuals act as the Statesmen they purport and pretend to be and forthwith retire to private life. Their standing before the Almighty is a personal issue between each one of us and the Creator God, but whether in this life or the next we will bow before and confess The Lord Jesus as King as he welcomes into his eternal love or gives us our just desserts. The right act in both instances requires one to bow to our Lord and to bow before one’s oath. My prayer is those involved would do both, today.

If you read the report, you’ll see that a lot of cash is doled out to make “race”, “age”, “disability” accusations go away. This report only raises more questions than it answers. In today’s world, any immoral phony can claim “ism” and get a “settlement” if the accused doesn’t want a fight. I’m unimpressed. Everyone knows that politicians for the most part are compromised in many ways.
