Brits are told to limit their meals to just 1,600 calories a day (tr)

Britons are being urged to cut their meals to just 1,600 calories a day and 200 calories for snacks in tough new health guidelines.

They will be told they should limit themselves to 400 calories for breakfast, 600 for lunch and 600 for dinner.

This comes to 1,600 calories, well below the current recommended daily intake of 2,000 calories for women and 2,500 for men. Those who exercise regularly can have even more.

People who follow the new guidelines can also eat two healthy snacks of up to 100 calories each.

The suggestions from Public Health England (PHE) do not include drinks, but snacks and healthy hydration are likely to keep the total below the current recommendations.

PHE, which is the Government agency for preventing ill health, claims they are merely a ‘rule of thumb’ rather than strict limits.

Officials claim the average adult is overeating by 300 calories a day, and this so-called ‘calorie-creep’ is leading to a steady weight gain. But Tam Fry, of the National Obesity Forum, said: ‘This is a panic measure to get the public to understand they are eating too much.

Full title: Brits are told to limit their meals to just 1,600 calories a day for men AND women in tough new health guidelines warning of the dangers of coffee shops and takeaway sandwiches

Now we know where Michael Bloomberg went after his term as NYC mayor expired. But if Brits REALLY want to get serious they should put the people on the Kim Jong-un diet plan. You don't see a single overweight North Korean, do you?

An egg mc muffin breakfast at McDonald’s is 450 calories-no cream/sugar. Not very filling.

Fun fact: During World War Two, Britons were rationed to 3000 calories/day

Some people get their jollies from nagging and browbeating others.

They usually wind up as bureaucrats.

Sorry. but there is absolutely no definitive proof that a population that has a limited total caloric intake , has a lower death rate or greater longevity. If it were so, North Koreans would be the healthiest people in the world.

They want to weaken the public so that it will be easier for the Muslims to take over.

At around 200 calories per pint of beer, the total in the picture doesn’t include the 600 to 800 calories of a typical night out at the pub...:^)

So much for the English Breakfast. Will those who don’t hold to the “guidelines” face problems with National Health?

This is what socialized health care leads to.

Now the government can tell everybody what to do and justify it in the interest of fairness and cost.

Dirty communists, you can't tell me what or how much to eat.

Go F yourselves, you ugly muppets.

Study Finds Little Change in N. Korean Diet Over 50 Years
Voice of America
Eunjung Cho
February 03, 2015
[Excerpt:]
The magazine analyzed dietary changes from 1961 to 2011 in 22 countries, including the United States and the two Koreas. On average, an adult in North Korea consumed about 2,103 calories per day in 2011, only a slight climb from 1,878 per day in 1961.

That is significantly lower than the daily caloric intake of 2,500 a day suggested by the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization.

The data also suggest that the average North Korean diet remains not only low in calories, but also unbalanced.

"Jee Abbey Lee contributed to this report, which was produced in collaboration with the VOA Korea service."

[familyop: really, though, many of us should eat only enough to be okay--not stuffed at all. And exercise, even if that means laying on one's back and wiggling the arms and legs! At least the Brits are trying to do something about it.]

And they probably needed more.

Nowadays, with central heating/ac, the fact that 98% don’t farm and most jobs aren’t as physical as they were 25 years ago, much less 50 or 75 years ago, most people probably don’t need as many calories as their parents or grandparents did.

On the other hand, there is a lot of evidence that over-eating and obese people die sooner (through various issues) than folks who don’t over-eat or are thin.

I would suggest that when the day comes....years from now...Britain will be the first country to ban sodas from kids under 16.

Thus, you’re ok with the freakin government telling you what you can eat? Did your kids eat Michelle Obama lunches?

In what world is that tolerable?
