Bingo. They apparently knew that the dossier was tainted and created this cover story to get a FISA warrant anyway. McCain and Comey are in on it.

It was a cover story, but of a different kind. The FBI knew perfectly well all about the dossier’s origins. That was not the issue for them.
The cabal had been unable to get the MSM to pick up on more than a few broad strokes of the dossier during the election campaign (because it was such unverifiable garbage), and now (Nov. 2016) Donald Trump had been elected despite their best efforts. McVain and Kramer were involved in presenting the dossier to Comey AFTER the election, at least according to what I read awhile ago.
This was a new phase of the plotting, to give the FBI “Republican” cover to say it had to take the dossier seriously. The big revelation of the dossier in the MSM came AFTER Comey “briefed” POTUS-elect Trump on January 6, 2017.
The way they got the garbage into the MSM (via CNN and then Buzzfeed) was by (1) having McVain and Kramer give the dossier “Republican” bi-partisan concern (so that it would not be Democrap fingerprints on it), and (2) having Comey ride on that RINO concern to “brief” Trump, so that (3) now the MSM (in Jan. 2017) could drape its “reporting” of the dossier in the claim that “top intel officials” had taken it seriously enough to brief the POTUS-elect.
McVain and Kramer were all about giving Comey & co. “bi-partisan” cover for pretending to take the dossier seriously enough to get it into the MSM. Without that it would have been too obviously a partisan dirty trick.
So it proved to be a RINO/Demoncrap bi-partisan dirty trick, enabled by Comey, the Ohrs, Strzok, and their dirty pals in the FBI and Dept of Justice.
