Republican Roy Moore, who lost a recent Alabama senate election to his Democrat rival Doug Jones, has filed a lawsuit in an attempt to challenge the result.
The lawsuit was filed the day before officials were due to certify Mr. Jones the winner-two weeks after the vote....
Mr. Moore's lawyer said the purposed of the complaint was to "preserve evidence of potential election fraud and to postpone the certification of Alabama's Special Election by Secretary of State John Merrill until a thorough investigation of potential election fraud, that improperly altered the outcome of this election."
Mr. Merrill told the Associated Press on Wednesday that he had not intention of delaying the canvassing board meeting and certification of the winner.
"I am not going to delay certification and Doug Jones will be certified (on Thursday) at 1pm and he will be sworn in by Vice-President Pence on 3 January," Mr. Merrill said........

The lawsuit cites problems in 20 precincts.
The Secretary of State's smart aleck comments using the fact that Jones will be sworn in by VP Mike Pence reminds us that the insiders in Alabama and in Washington were against Moore.
Pence campaigned for days with Luther Strange during the primary runoff, then disappeared from campaigning for Roy Moore in the general.
Moore lost fair and square. The fact that he held endless press conferences denying the allegations, while Jones was campaigning across the state, makes Jones victory even more solid.

I agree. Moore is done.
He should have stayed as chief justice of the Alabama supreme court.
Moore spending countless hours denying the allegations, while Jones was campaigning and doing meet-and-greets.
Jones firing up his base.
Clearly, enough Moore supporters in AL stayed home.
5 posts in a Moore thread? Looks like folks have moved on. Roy should do the same.
Got what he deserved. Why didn’t the GOP voters know he already lost time in statewide elections? GOP is stupid.
No, he did not. Allowing the media to spread unproven accusations from 40 years ago was not fair. Having numerous Republican officeholders embracing the accusations without proof, and urging voters to vote for someone else, was also not fair.
What do you expect to happen when prominent Republican officials, especially those in your home state, embrace the accusations as true, and urge people to stay home or vote for someone else?
You accuse a man of being a child molesting rapist, and it seriously damages his chances of being elected. Even more so when his own party urges people to act as if he were guilty.
How did he "deserve" it? Explain your thinking here.
Or perhaps people see no point in raging against the sea of public opinion, which may or may not be based on what is actually true.
Sometimes a majority just means all the fools are on the same side.
In the presidential election of 1800 the news media, paid for by the John Adams campaign, published an unproven accusation that Thomas Jefferson had fathered children by his deceased wife’s half-sister, who was Jefferson’s slave, Sally Hemings.

Alls fair in love, war and politics and if you cant stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.
In a war, you do not normally expect to get shot in the back by the people in your own army.
Alabama Certifies Jones Win, Brushing Aside Challenge From Roy Moore

MONTGOMERY, Ala. Alabama officials on Thursday unhesitatingly pushed aside a legal challenge from Roy S. Moore and certified Doug Jones as the winner of this months Senate election.
The action, during a brief meeting at the State Capitol, was essentially the states final step before the seating of the first Democrat elected to the Senate from Alabama in a quarter century. It was also a swift rejection, by some of the states most powerful Republicans, of Mr. Moores complaint that he was the victim of systematic voter fraud.
Mr. Joness margin of victory was 21,924 votes with more than 1.3 million ballots cast.

I didn't know state officials had the authority to push aside a legal challenge. Silly me, I thought a court had to make a ruling one way or the other. Did that happen?
Yeah, saw that. OJ Simpson trial all over again.
