The legislation directs the Interior Department to hold at least two lease sales over the next 10 years...In other words, it will never happen. What idiot gave a TEN YEAR time limit? It should have been written so the lease sales would occur on or before November 5, 2018. After that, all bets are off.

Great article, with interesting info. One comment though... the number 15 billion. I presume it's total, not annual:
there are 15.6 billion barrels of oil beneath ANWR... 60% ... recoverable.
produce up to 15 billion gallons of petroleum annually... producing 15 billion gallons of ethanol annually

.001% of ANWAR is being opened for drilling. More pipeline for the Caribou and other wildlife to warm up under.

Exactly. The left, and the environmentalists have it so wrong.

.001% of ANWAR is being opened for drilling. More pipeline for the Caribou and other wildlife to warm up under. I didn't save a very dated article, but the locals and natives in AK stated this region has no value for hunting any type of wildlife. The wildlife populate far better areas where they have food and protection. Lies about this region are nothing more than America prosperity hating disguised as environmental protection. Not fooling anyone so drop the fake emotional outrage over something that doesn't exist.

Its time to give back all State land to the States.

That was about the stupidest remark by any politician ever. Everything takes time to build. Following his principal, nothing would ever get built.

In days gone by, Free Republic had the benefit of comments by an engineer who actually designed facilities for Arctic drilling. Alas, I can’t remember his name.
He moved from near Anchorage back to houston. I would really enjoy his factual commentary on the subject

I remember when John Kerry said it would 10 years for one drop of oil to reach the pipe lineAnd if drilling in ANWR had been approved back then, the oil would be flowing now.

Well, 2,000 acres for exploration of 19,000,000 total acres is actually just .0001 NOT .01.

(The original incorrect percentage in the article was .001, not .01 as I mistakenly wrote in the above post. But, again, the actual percentage for drilling is only .0001).
