As the Dossier Scandal Looms, the New York Times Struggles to Save Its Collusion Tale
NRO ^ | 1/1/2018 | Andrew McCarthy

Posted on 01/01/2018 4:37:34 PM PST by mojito

...Seven months after throwing Carter Page as fuel on the collusion fire lit by then-FBI director James Comey’s stunning public disclosure that the Bureau was investigating possible Trump campaign “coordination” in Russia’s election meddling, the Gray Lady now says: Never mind. We’re onto Collusion 2.0, in which it is Papadopoulos — then a 28-year-old whose idea of résumé enhancement was to feign participation in the Model U.N. — who triggered the FBI’s massive probe by . . . wait for it . . . a night of boozy blather in London.

What’s going on here?

Well, it turns out the Page angle and thus the collusion narrative itself is beset by an Obama-administration scandal: Slowly but surely, it has emerged that the Justice Department and FBI very likely targeted Page because of the Steele dossier, a Clinton-campaign opposition-research screed disguised as intelligence reporting. Increasingly, it appears that the Bureau failed to verify Steele’s allegations before the DOJ used some of them to bolster an application for a spying warrant from the FISA court....

...Democrats and their media friends have been moving the goal posts in an effort to save their collusion narrative. First, we were led to believe the dossier was no big deal because the FBI would surely have corroborated any information before the DOJ fed it to a federal judge in a warrant application. Then, when the Clinton campaign’s role in commissioning the dossier came to light, we were told it was impertinent to ask about what the FBI did, if anything, to corroborate it since this could imperil intelligence methods and sources — and, besides, such questions were just a distraction from the all-important Mueller investigation (which the dossier had a hand in instigating and which, to date, has turned up no evidence of a Trump-Russia conspiracy).

It’s the end of liberals’ world as they know it, and they don’t feel fine.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Jeff Sessions needs to move on. We need an AG who will prosecute, Comey, McCabe, et. al. under RICO.

Essentially the deep state is a crime family of extended proportions, racketerrs all.

PROSECUTE THEM ALL, and put them in jail.

Lindsey Graham confirmed the Democrat dossier was the bases for the Fisa warrant.

He actually did not. Graham's statement was misrepresented by "Sundance" here: Misleading article, and the misrepresentation was continued by others. It's worth it to pay close attention to what Graham actually says. He hints that the dossier was misused, but he doesn't say how. He just says he is "very concerned" and this cannot be the new normal.

Mueller cannot indict Trump. What he can do is prepare articles of impeachment and deliver them to Ryan. They will be about things like the transition team trying to influence the UN vote on Russian sanctions, obstruction of justice for firing Comey and perhaps other process crimes for those surrounding Trump. I would also not be at all surprised if they dredge up some other personal matter about Trump or his business to damage his political viability.

Multiple Obama holdovers also confirmed that the dossier was used to get the FISA warrant. Guess you didn’t read the article.

If they were the Duke and the King in Huckleberry Finn, they’d be gone down the river already. But since they’re the New York Times, they’ll put on yet another playing of the Royal Nonsuch until they’re tarred and feathered and rode out of town on a rail.

Multiple Obama holdovers also confirmed...

Whether or not they did, the point is that Graham did NOT specifically say it was. Graham did not confirm that the dossier was used to get the FISA warrant. That is the assertion I was refuting. I happen to think truth is important.

My guess is that Mueller will go after a few underlings and will call it a day with nothing on Trump.

Rosenstein has Mueller on a leash. After watching Rosenstein testify the other day I believe he is ready to redeem himself.

Well I watched the Graham interview and he clearly implied that the dossier was used as legal basis to spy on a political campaign and said this can’t become the new normal.

If he had been any more direct he would have committed a felony.

Baloney to both parts of that. The assertion is being made that Graham explicitly said the dossier was used as the basis for the FISA warrant, but he said no such thing. Even his hint that it was misused was vague. As for committing a felony, it would be helpful if you could cite the specific relevant US code.

...the Democrat dossier was the basis for the Fisa warrant. This is a scandal that destroys the FBI!! ....

The basic lesson they underscore in law school......never never lie to a judge.

It’s about time the Obama Crime Syndicate and his Police State operations are investigated.

We are beginning to get a better picture of how sinister the Obama operation really is (its still functioning via OFA at his DC residence). The genesis of the Democrats’ “win at any cost” odious Russia misinformation campaign is suddenly clearer.

BACKSTORY Through the last half of 2016, the Obama administration was desperately searching for evidence of some link between the Trump presidential campaign and Russia.

<><> They went to great lengths, falsifying requests, twice seeking, then finally obtaining, a court-ordered FISA, that allowed them to spy on at least one Trump associate.

<><> We now know that Obama’s NSA henchman, Susan “The Sifter” Rice, had an operation wherein raw NSA intelligence was sifted through for names of Trump associates, in hopes of uncovering dirt of some sort. These efforts came up dry. The Obama administration found no compromising information about Trump or any of his associates.

<><> Ever since the Trump Inauguration, the Democratic Party, especially its NY/DC press wing, has relentlessly pushed the Trump/Russia story. But that hasn’t stopped Democrat factotums in the press from talking about little else for the last three months.

<><>This is the kicker-—— all along, the Democrats have known that their spying produced nothing.

This whole Obama/Comey/Mueller/Democrat spy apparat is almost unbelievably sordid. The relevant Congressional committees should investigate thoroughly, and criminal prosecutions should follow where laws have been broken.

The tumultuous events that unfolded after the election and reelection of Barack Obama bring to mind the words of author Mary Shelley when her character, Victor Frankenstein, says: “I live in daily fear lest the evil monster whom I created should perpetrate some new wickedness.”

The article still lies.

Notice how they imply there is something more than just the dossier:

“...it appears that the Bureau failed to verify Steele’s allegations before the DOJ used some of them to bolster an application for a spying warrant from the FISA court....”

There is no reason to believe anything other than the FBI fabricated evidence for a FISA warrant. But they still pretend that somehow there is credible information in the FISA warrant.

No, the end, the death, is yet to come. There will be leftist destruction resulting from massive and innumerable indictments.

There will be evidence of collaboration of the political leftists with the media leftists that is in fact conspiracy.

Conspiracy is not protected by the first amendment.

Everything goes back to the dossier. I can’t see any surveillance carried out with that as cause being upheld in court. Its bogus. I could make up a like dossier about anyone.

Graham could not make an explicit assertion about the dossier being used for a FISA warrant because the FISA warrants are secret by definition.
