Manafort files lawsuit charging Mueller probe is illegal; says he was double-crossed

Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort is directly challenging Special Counsel Robert Mueller, charging in a law suit filed on Wednesday that the prosecutor lacked the legal authority to investigate and indict him on pre-2016 money laundering charges.

Calling the indictment “fanciful,” attorney Kevin Downing’s suit in U.S. District Court says Mr. Mueller was appointed in May with a mandate to investigate possible Russia-Trump campaign collusion in the hacking of Democrat Party computers.

Good. About time someone goes after Mueller. I believe the statute also required allegations of a specific crime. The crime was never stated, because there isn’t one. So the whole loaf is tainted.

this is great law suit with real merit but it depends on if this is another corrupt judge.

Is Weasel Mueller’s persecution a criminal matter or counter-intelligence?

Why does the DOJ/FBI IG need 500 Very Special Agents?

How much is RosenWeasel paying Weasel Mueller per hour?

He was appointed because the people inside the DOJ with responsibility for the matter believed they had a conflict of interest that prevented them from operating objectively in their roles as U.S. attorneys.

The irony is that "the people inside the DOJ with responsibility for the matter" appointed someone, Mueller, who has even more conflicts of interest than they had.

It's a hard thing to say, but I think that Mueller's real mission is to locate and destroy evidence of criminal wrongdoing by Democrats. The question I have is whether Sessions and Rosenstein gave Mueller this sub rosa assignment, or whether Mueller is on a frolic.

"The Justice Dept. and the FBI as cabinet departments reporting to the President, carry out Constitutional mandates that the President..."

No of which argues against anything I said. You said a "special investigator" was unconstitutional because it wasn't mentioned. I only pointed out that other entities aren't mentioned either, but they aren't unconstitutional.

"There’s something fishy about Obama’s secret background..."

Obama's background may be fishy. That's likely in the eye's of the beholder. But we do know certain things. One of them is that he was born in Hawaii. As far as birther suits go, that one fact is enough.

I never said a “special investigator” was unconstitutional because it wasn’t mentioned.

I said the constitution does not authorize the president to engage in “prosecution” of federal officials especially when the appointment is not passed through Congress. Also, and probably more to the point, the job of impeachment and trying (prosecuting) belongs SOLELY to Congress, not to the President (U.S. const, art. I, sec. 6).

"Manafort is tough and old school."

Agreed!

Mueller and his brown shirts over-diddled with the wrong guy when they raided his house in the wee hours.

My money is on Manafort.

This is a coup. Mueller ,Rosentstein, the news media, comey (the FBi) etc are all democrats and are all doing a coup to take down Trump.

This Mueller creep got a “black lives matter” grand jury in DC to indict Manafort . Who won't a grand jury like this indict for any thing this creep Mueller says they did? "He' must a done a crime in 1996 so jail him and then Trump" . But 1996 was before the election and i thought... .

This is the land of the free ? where is justice?

This is a war democrats against Trump and the American people. . The communists(democrats) against us the American people.

Anyone who doesn't see this is not living in reality or is a democrat. That Alberta’s Child troll you are replying to , well his support of Mueller is disgusting. I just think that's a democrat

Here on FR, you don't go around calling a perfectly decent 17+ year FReeper a "troll" just because they disagree with you on one point or another. There's no need for such incivility.

Alberta's Child is a honorable member of the this community—a member in good standing. Consequently, you're out of line. Settle down...

Let’s hope. Having the Federales aka Mueller + Andrew Weissman come down on you like a ton of bricks is punishment enough even if you do win. Due to the millions Paul Manafort will be spending on lawyers. Plus the way Manafort and wife were raided at 6AM by Mueller’s assassin sqaud.

How can he lose? He’s right.

Are you for real? Why don't you give Paul Manafort a few million dollars for his mounting lawyers fees. Being forced to pay for lawyers is punishment in and of itself. Mark Steyn complains mightily about this in having to defend himself against Michael Mann, the global warming hockey stick man.

$64,0000 question, right there.

Both agencies are behemoths and both have proven to operate outside the law on numerous occasions, without any accountability. But, the politicians in DC don’t want to mess with them, for fear of having to be on the opposite side of the interview table, one day.

Think Manafort is on offense here. He and his lawyers know jail is out.
The investigation is riddled with problems. Any lawyer worth their salt can tell you.

When you are charged with lying to the FBI, because there are no recordings or transcripts of your FBI interview, it is your word against the agent’s word. Or your word versus the word of another witness. And the FBI decides who is correct and who is lying.

Then common sense says that you record it if you have a lawyer present or not.
