The former British spy who compiled a dossier of allegations about Donald Trumps presidential campaign and Russia brought the document to the FBI in July 2016 because he was worried about whether a political candidate was being blackmailed, according to a congressional interview transcript released Tuesday.
California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, revealed the transcript from an August closed-door interview with Glenn Simpson, a co-founder of the political opposition research firm Fusion GPS. The firm commissioned the dossier, which was initially paid for by a conservative website and then later by Democrats, including Hillary Clintons presidential campaign.
Feinstein made the transcript public over the objections of Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, who called the move confounding in a statement shortly after Feinstein made it public. Grassley said the release could undermine attempts to interview other witnesses in the committees investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election.
In the transcript, Simpson said Christopher Steele, the former British spy who wrote the dossier, took it to the FBI and said his concern was whether or not there was blackmail going on, whether a political candidate was being blackmailed or had been compromised.

salacious and unverified
So noble, says the Asspress liars.
I thought he brought it to make money.
As for fear of being blackmailed by Russians-if he had any fear of it he would not have been arm in arm with them in making the dossier.
So, Hitlery Uranium Clinton would never have been ‘blackmailed’...riiiiight.
Now they’re going to try and make the spy a hero like they did with Mumia...Shakur and so on... so they can build sympathy if he goes down
So honorable. Such a patriot! Altruism, thy name is Glenn Simpson! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
AP acts as if this is news to them. They were paid by the fbi.... fusion..dems...Hillary...?... to print it.
Steele had no such noble concerns; he was a college socialist at Cambridge, sucks up to the elite that run the British government from both political parties there, and got paid handsomely for his crappy work that has brought needless political turmoil and crap accusations that have dominated US news and politics for far too long in the president’s first year. Steele is a first class bum, a foreigner who has no right meddling in US presidential politics.
He had to sell a story of a blackmail vulnerable candidate, that is what he was paid for. So we get Trump the germophobe neat freak who doesn’t like shaking hands, hiring prostitutes to pee on his bed.
As if the KGB has no video of huma and hillary...
This was a planned hit on Trump.
The KGB has goods on Obama too in my opinion. It was unfortunate that they never let it out.
Let me fix that title, Author Had Phony Concerns...
Why bust out their own asset?
Here's the real reason why it was released...so future witnesses could get their stories straight. Dems are running scared on this. They are crooks.
Well, we know that a candidate was bought by the Russians. But does the fact that she sold out willingly make her susceptible to blackmail? Who knows?
And getting paid.
Also, getting paid.
And, getting paid while all this was going on.
While he was making sure he got paid.
When, if ever, will the stupid MSM and AP recognize that while anti-Trump Republicans originally engaged Fusion GPS for oppo research, they NEVER put money into the phony Russian dossier???
Such a simple fact... and yet the simpletons just can’t get it through their willfully thick heads.
