I don’t see war with NK as inevitable. As long as the status quo is maintained in NK, the Generals will not revolt against Dear Leader. And the status quo does not include nuking the USA, as the author states.

The big difference is that Japan thought the attack would lead to the US negotiating from a weaker position. Kim is crazy, but he’s not stupid. Doing a “nuke a city” would sign his, and his minions, death warrants. They are not Japan, and we are not the US of 1941.

NK is an ankle biter that best be kept aware of that fact.

I agree. I find this thesis unconvincing, NK leaders may be violent and sociopathic but that does not make them candidates for suicide.

status quo is not maintaining.
Crippling sanctions are stating to harm the high and mighty there as well as the military.
