Senators try to scrub Jefferson's name from the Arch [St. Louis]
St Louis Today ^ | Jan 9, 2018

How nice that our two Missouri senators can find common ground in the removal of the name "Jefferson" from the most recognized structure in the St. Louis area ("We call it the Arch; soon, that may be its formal name, too ," Jan. 5).

The proposal, introduced by Republican Roy Blunt the same week as the Confederate Monument in Forest Park was taken down, scrubs the name of the slave-owning third president and author of the Declaration of Independence from the monument celebrating Western expansion. Instead of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, the shiny silver structure will be named the Gateway Arch National Monument.

Thank goodness visitors can now avoid honoring those who brought white privilege to the Plains, and can purchase "Made in China" Arch souvenirs with no reminder of the author of Jeffersonian democracy.

Us Southerners warned everyone this was coming. It was ok with a whole lot of folks on here when it was just Lee, Forrest and Davis. It’s about eradicating Western culture and values, not just Southern ones.

Maybe we can have those senators’ names scrubbed from history.

They should rename St. Louis as well because it’s named for a crusader who killed African people.

You’re dead on right, especially because naming the Arch after Jefferson was entirely appropriate, since he proposed the Lewis & Clark expedition, got Congress to fund it and authorize it, selected Lewis and Clark to lead it, and it originated in St. Louis. Taking his name off the Arch is a vile obliteration of history.

The next thing the leftists will do is try to change the name of the Kennedy Space Center because JFK’s father supported Hitler in the runup to WW II.

BTW, I like your pen name.

They can’t fix things just by removing a name. They have to take the whole arch down.

I tried to warn them too, but all they could see were a bunch of hick confederates. This has always been about the elimination of Western history. Tearing everything down and starting again with a centrally controlled global government.

So many on FR just saw Bubba riding around with a confederate flag in his truck and thought they would feel better by virtue signalling, rather than seeing things for what they really are.

Like I always said.

First they go after “Redskins”, then they’ll go after “Washington”.

Jefferson is not my favourite founding father — I don’t like his support of the bloody French Revolution, but he deserves credit for the Louisiana Purchase, the Lewis and Clark Expedition and the spur to Westward Expansion.

It makes them feel morally superior to insult and denigrate 19th century men and women with 21st century vision. Of course, when it’s their heroes or kin threatened, the vapors and clutching of pearls ensue. I’m pretty positive that had Washington and Jefferson been alive and seen what Lincoln proposed they have saddled up for Virginia.

No nation will have a future when it erases its history.
