Did Dolly Parton Banish “Dixie” Over Political Correctness?
Townhall.com ^ | January 11, 2018 | Todd Starnes

Dolly Parton’s famous “Dixie Stampede” just got trampled by a politically correct mob.

The popular dinner show with locations in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and Branson, Missouri, will now be called, “Dolly Parton’s Stampede.”

For nearly 30 years, the Dixie Stampede has been a family-friendly dinner show attraction — featuring great food and expert horsemanship — steeped in Civil War history. The Starnes family has attended on numerous occasions (we sat on the Southern side).

It’s unclear what – specifically – Miss Dolly will be stampeding in the culturally-cleansed revision. And it’s also not clear why the sudden name change (but I have a suspicion).

“Our shows currently are identified by where they are located,” Miss Dolly said in a press statement. “Some examples are Smoky Mountain Adventures or Dixie Stampede. We also recognize that attitudes change and feel that by streamlining the names of our shows, it will remove any confusion or concerns about our shows and will help our efforts to expand into new cities.”

Last year, Slate sent a Yankee reporter to Pigeon Force to write a scathing review of the Dixie Stampede – described as the “Lost Cause of the Confederacy meets Cirque du Soleil.”

The writer went on to call the show a “lily-white extravaganza” that celebrates the “Old South.”

Again, Miss Dolly did not say what influenced the decision to culturally cleanse the Dixie Stampede — but others share my thoughts.

“Well, like everybody else, I love Dolly, and I love all that she’s done for our community, which is her community, and I’m disappointed that they’re yielding to political correctness,” Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett told the Knoxville News Sentinel. “What’s next? Are we going to change the name of Dixie cups and the Dixie sugar company? You know, I just hope they don’t change their Christmas program.”

I reckon somebody ought to give the Dixie Chicks a call…

Dolly...NEVER cave, and NEVER apologize, to the PC crowd...

Look what it did to Paula Deen, who also tried to appease them.

Probably offends the whine sipping liberals who drive SUV’s and private planes and congratulating each other for being the self-appointed moral authority of our country.

Dolly probably wanted to be sensitive to her throngs of African-American fans.

My thoughts exactly. I wonder what percentage of Darius Rucker's fan base is black?

She’s a traitor to her heritage and a sell out. It’ll close in a couple of years. Apparently, she hasn’t seen her audiences there. Not too many BLM members filling the seats. Just a part of the ongoing cultural genocide against the South and her history, surprisingly cheered on here at FR by supposed “Conservatives”

Dolly did this because the majority of visitors to the “Dixie Stampede” were blacks and she had to appease the majority of those that paid to go to Dollyworld. Blacks make the vast majority of visitors to Dollyworld. \\Sarcasm

It’s a shame that the word “Dixie” has been deemed a racist word.

Will “Dixie Cup” be renamed?

Dolly turned her back on the fan base who made her a success, when she called them “homophobes,” and admonished them for “doing God’s work,” as though that is a bad thing.

Your ilk and the rest of the Lincoln lovers, who enable these thugs by your comments referring to Southern war heroes as “traitors”.

Excuse me. I have absolutely no use for Dolly Parton whatsoever, but you are going too far when you accuse her of being a "traitor to her heritage." Dolly Parton is from East Tennessee, and I don't know if you're aware of this, but East Tennessee was thoroughly anti-Confederate and pro-Union, even being a hotbed of abolitionism at one time. In fact, when East Tennesseans wanted to exercise their "right to secede" (which Confederates insisted everyone had), the slimy hypocrites in Nashville and Richmond wouldn't let them and even sent a whole Confederate army to keep them in the Confederacy by force.

The Right has its own form of "political correctness," and one of these is that the Confederacy was run by angels and Abraham Lincoln was the world's first "Communist dictator." Everything Lincoln did that "constitutionalists" bellyache about was done by Jefferson Davis first He is forgiven for his centralizing tyranny and his experiments in state socialism (which the Union didn't engage in). There is also a huge case of amnesia over the fact that not everyone from the North was on one side while everyone from the South was on the other. There were many Northerners who took the Southern position while the Union armies were full of Southerners from western North Carolina, East Tennessee, north Alabama, and other places. My own Southern ancestors were Unionists and Republicans. I am as proud of this as I am of being a Southerner.

"South" is a direction on a map and a geographic region of the country. The Confederacy was a political entity that temporarily occupied this area of the country. To insist that all "real Southerners" supported it is ignorant nonsense.
